ok I've been looking and I was thinking about getting an eclipse head unit preferably a cd3100 or anything equivalent, something that will charge my ipod. I was looking and I was thinking about getting Boston's all around i've heard good things about them. The local audio shop acted like only certain 6by9s would fit in the rear. I want something that will sound really good but wont be a pain in the ass to install, I don't want to have to cut anything or and custom stuff. any opinions? I'm probably going to buy on ebay just to save some cash and my budget would be around 800 and I would do the installation myself.

Will you be installing a subwoofer? If so, you dont need a rear stage, just the front 6.5's should do. I noticed absolutely no difference in sound after removing the rear 6x9's from the equasion, and I'm quite the audiophile. I would suggest a component set from either CDT or Hertz, although there are many other great brands out there. Remember, sound is purely subjective. A component set from either of those brands, entry level, will run roughly $250.

Eclipse is a real good brand, I work at a Toyota dealership and that is the only after market head unit that we install hear for the new car demo/dress vehicles. We really don't here many complaints from our customers because I to deal with those guest on a daily basis, since I am incharge of the accessory department. On the speakers boston or eclipse are great speakers, but I would also like to recomend infinitys or alpines. That is all if been using for the past few years and they have been great. It all depends on what your looking to spend and what your'e preference is, but you should really think about going with components because they make the highs alot more clear compared to a 2way speaker.

ok so as of now im thinking about a eclipse cd3100 or higher, i want the 5volt preout and an eclipse 6.5 component set for the doors and a 6by9 set for the rear. any ideas on the dash speakers if they are an easy change? i heard they are like 3.5 but im not sure.

You are probably getting distortion because you don't have enough power. Funny thing is you can blow a speaker with too little power before you blow it with too much. I think the first question you need to ask is how loud do you want it and are you going to run the speakers off of the stock deck. Some people say if your running components you need more power than the stock deck can provide. You could by a four channel amp and run the speakers you have now to see if that makes a difference.
