Just so you guys know for comparison purposes, the base model 5 speed 98+ preludes can and have run 15.1-15.2 bone stock. I have seen it. Not all of them do, but good driving and they are not the slowest cars in the world. Those numbers are about in tune with stock DSM turbos.
They are definately faster than a GS-R. Type R's can run about 14.7 with good driving

yeah the base model preludes are actually faster thatn the Type-SH because they have the same exact engine without all the extra weight from the ATTS thingy.

I live in Jackson and work in Ann Arbor.
Did I meet you at Waterford a couple months ago?
My car is a 95 TSi FWD. It's charcoal/silver, with an Eoi body kit, and a big gundumb wing.

EAK, I live in Japan so I see alot of great cars over here. The Japan spec version of the 323GTX not only looked different but also had better performance. Strip enough weight out or the car and add a few bolt ons and its more then fast enough for a daily driver. I used to own a 94 Integra GSR but sold it a few years ago.

Has anyone here ever rode in an SH? How is the handling?

Well since I have owned a 99 Prelude Type SH let me share an experience I had with a DSM.

First off the 96(4th gen) year has a little advantage over the 97-00(5th gen) in that the gearing is closer so maybe about .25-.35 seconds quicker in the 1/4. The 99+ Preludes had 200hp while 97-98 had 195hp. I am pretty sure the 4th gen VTEC engines also had 195hp.

Now I raced a good friend who had a used stock 95 Talon TSI. When we finally got a light where we had a good launch he got about 1/2 car length on me. I had an unbelievable launch and he was also a little new to his AWD car. But it was one of the coolest races I have ever been in. Becuase in the lower revs (5000 down) he would pull on me just a bit but when my VTEC (5500+) kicked in I would regain the ground and it was that see-saw type battle all the way to the end of 3rd when we caught up to traffic. But it was overall dead even.

As far as on a roll or on the interstate the Prelude is pretty damn quick. I mean it will do 145mph (redline limited) and it gets there pretty quickly too. Mind you this was in my completely stock Prelude AT SEA LEVEL. UP at elevation it's a completely different car. It seriously feels like a civic up here ... which is why I had to get myself a WRX =).

Cheers

I forgot to mention that I raced a mid-late 90's GST up at 6000ft. elevation and he pretty much slowly walked me all through 2nd and 3rd. But everything is better now... with boost and my WRX =).

As far as the handling goes it ROCKED! I upgraded my tires on my WRX to SSR Competition 17x7.5 with 225-45-17 RE730's and the WRX is just about to the same level on corners as the Prelude was.

To give you some reference. In Colorado here there is HWY 50 that pretty much runs E-W through the southern part of the state. It is the kind of hwy you see in the WRX and RSX commercials. On the curves they usually post "recommended" speeds. In my Type SH I could easily double those and then if I really pushed it I could get another 5-10mph out of the curve. So for example a curve posted at 45 I could easily get 90 out of then maybe 95mph if I really pushed it. This is one crappy stock RE-92 tires. Now the WRX on the exact same stretch of hwy with the exact same crappy RE-92's could only get say 80 on the same curve and maybe 85-90 if I really pushed it.

The Type SH pulls 0.92g on the skidpad compared to 0.85-0.86 for WRX. I think the WRX can get to the same level. The new tires helped tremendously and if you put some half-way serious suspension work into it you would probably surpass the STOCK Type SH handling... but then =).

In the 2 years I had the Type SH I don't think I ever found a car that could out corner it (I am talking longer/sweeping curves, not so much 90 degree or sharper turns). I even took my step-dad's 99 porsche 911 out in Phoenix once on a nice curvy stretch of road and then I took my Prelude on the same stretch and the Prelude was just as fast as the Porsche (IN THE curves [heh])... not so much on the straight aways =).

Re: Looks like that's as close as I'm getting to Hondas don't suck.
