:) There is something wrong with my car. It won't stay charged. I have put 3 altenators on my car and a new battery. When I start my car it has the battery light on and the brake light. What does that mean? Please help!

Well i had the same exact problem, the problem was a brand new alt. dies on me and i had those two lights on like half dim. Check your battery with a voltmeter while its running and make sure its pulling around 13-14 volts.

My next guess would be either a voltage regulator. It's also possible you have a draw in the system somewhere.

My alternator overcharged my car. It fried out all 4 of my headlights, overheated my motor, turned my ABS light on. I bought this alternator in nov. of 06 from Autozone. So I returned it and Autozone gave me a new alternator. I put the alternator on and my car died 2 days later. So Autozone gave me a new battery for free. My car still didnt charge only to 11.9 volts and increase up to 12.3. So I returned the sencond altenator I got form Autozone, and I recevied another one. So this is the third altenator and it still didnt charge my to 13.5 or at least 13.0. NOT AT ALL> about 12.3 So I went to Dobbs which I mad about now. Dobbs told me it was the altenator. So I went to Carquest Auto Parts, 330 dallor altenator, Autozones was 130 dallors. I went home put this altenator on now my Battery light is on and my Brake light..... When I "revve" the engine it charges to 13.3 then goes down to 11.9 when idleing. Not like the other 2 altenators I recevied at Autozone.
Whats going on? Is there a wire fried? I checked ALL fuses 4 times. This is the 3rd altenator on my car and a NEW battery...

Voltage regulator location..... beats the hell out of me. A draw... like you close the door and the light stays on... but you don't know it. It's basically a short in your electrical system where something is always ON and you don't know about it. It can be something simple like a headlight, or something a lot worse.

I've experienced the same problem before, I changed my alternator and the problem went away. If you have a short, check your fuses if any of them is blown. I still suspect your alternator though. Check the belt if it is not loose.

I had a draw, turned out to be my new antenna for the car. Didnt think that it had to be grounded.

My belt is tight as possible. My fuses I checked 4 times. Even Dobbs said that they were fine. Im going to drive to work and see if it dies on me I just dont understand why this is happening. I know what i'm doing and I think it's a FRIED WIRE BUT which one could it be the power wire? Is there a ground for the altenator, I thought it was the mount it self?

If your fusible link is burned or has a hairline fracture the car will run but the alternator won't be able to charge the battery. Alternators can be intermittent and a PITA to diagnose. I still be it's the Alt or the fusible link. Check all your grounds and re-do them if necessary.

Give me a rundown again of exactly what you're currently experiencing and I'll hit you back.

I had the same problem with my old 90 gs. I went through 5 new alternators and batterys from each Checker and autozone. I even tried a few known good used alternators with no luck. I finally agve in and took it to an electrical shop to have it looked at.

it turned out to be some kind of relay or something that went bad.

You know the yellow wire on the alternator, that is what is hooked to the alternator and thells it when to charge. It reads the battery power and turns on and off the voltage regulator.

In the fuse panel under the hood there should be a relay for the alternator, try replacing it and see if anything happens.

I also had a problem with an alternator from autozone for my 90 AWD. I bought a 90 amp GVR4 alternator and it wouldnt charge. Turned out the alternator I was given was missing a little noise filter or diode or something like that. It hooks to the double *********** wire and is screwed to the alternaotr(gound). I got a new one and all was good.

Hope any of this helps,
Thomas

I need some pictures, or something I dont want to mess with wire's I shouldn't, plus I can only use one hand. It makes things very difacult, sorry about the spelling. Is there a website I might be able to go to, get some pictures of the wire diagram for altenator?
