Hey guys. I've been having a problem with my car lately (95 Eclipse GS ATX) and I need a little information. I checked the resistance at pins 1 and 3 on the throttle position sensor and it reads 4.155 kilo ohms. As I understand it, this is an ideal amount of resistance.

When I tested pins 2 and 3, resistance was 3.7 kilo ohms when the throttle was closed and 1.15 kilo ohms at wide open throttle. The resistance decreased quite smoothly but I wanted to know if these two figures are acceptable.

I'm checking the throttle position sensor because the car will shift into fourth when I let off the throttle any time the speed is over 25 miles per hour. The shift into fourth is pretty rough too. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You checked for throttle valve angle and it looks good.
You're also supposed to check terminals 1 and 4 which should give a reading ofr 3.5-6.5K ohms.
Then 2 and 4 and resistance should move proportionately.
Both checks should move smoothly.
If you've already checked both, then the TPS is fine and it's most likely not your issue.

Do your basics with the tranny. Check the fluid color, smell, texture, and level. How old is the fluid? Did you use MOPAR or MITSU ATF+3 or 4?
Your issue sounds more like it lies in the transmission. Whether it be the solenoids, PCM, or just the fluids.

I apologize, you're correct. I was looking at the 1.8 n/t and didn't go down far enough for the 2.0 n/t.
In the end, your TPS is reading correctly.

I still believe it to be tranny related over the supporting electronic devices. I forgot to mention the TQ in that list (also edit the PCM for TCU).
What type of fluid did the tech use btw? The A604 is very picky on it's fluid.

Ok, looking again at your linked post, You may have a shift kit which could be causing the hard shifts and possible high stall torque converter but it's hard to tell.
It seems that you've changed the tranny parts that would cause you to go into limp mode. Keep in mind that you can go from +3 to +4 but not the other way around. It might be a good idea to ask the tranny tech on what he used.

The problem is that I don't yet know what kind of fluid he used. Although I'd like to assume that he used ATF + 3 or higher that might not be the case. I have heard that many transmission techs don't even know that you should only use ATF + 3 or higher.

Do you think I should flush the tranny and use ATF + 4? Thanks for your help by the way.

It wouldn't hurt anything but your pocket book :)
I can't think of anything else, that you haven't already done, that could cause the shift to 4th just by releasing the throttle. The tranny is the only other thing left that you haven't changed out.
I used to have the automatic A604 in my car along with the sluggish 6g73....not a good combo IMO.

Alrighty.

I just finished changing the tranny fluid personally and it now has 9 quarts of ATF + 4 in it. There's still no change in shift quality or behavior though.

It still bucks when it shifts from 2nd to 1st and it still shifts roughly into 4th whenever the speed is over 25 and I let off the throttle (even a tiny amount). I'm fresh out of ideas here and I'd like to be doing this  but the car is making it very difficult for me.

Anyone have some suggestions?
