Help Diagnosing the new 90 TSi I got a week ago. No boost etc.

Hey guys just bought a 90 TSi AWD (red) last saturday to fill the void in my life with my white one:(

Anyways it was running awesome when i first bought it except 5th gear blew out on he on the highway. I changed the air filter out the morning after and all of a sudden it runs like shit sort of. It wouldnt make boost till 5000rpm!. Still made full boost and all that but SUPER LAG. And when it tried to make boost a very loud WOOOOOO type howl sound occurs, major shaft play/ blown turbo maybe?

Now...it dies and stalls out on me alot and now it makes ZERO boost what so ever and it spudders/backfires at 5000+ rpm.

I changed out the MAS with my spare one cause I thought that would be it but no luck. Seems liek maybe a wastegate issue? Thanks guys:)

My galant sounded the same way.. Sounded like it was a beast, but it would move nowhere quickly.. When I sold it, took the turbo off and turns out it was bad.. Didnt have any shaft play, but it was damn near seized up..

Ill go check all the IC piping. The MAF is not unplugged BTW. Even it it is a blown turbo how can that cause stalling out and jumpy RPM (tach moves up and down rpm numbers sometimes when driving).

1. Are you using one of your many 91' ECU in the new 90'?

2. How did you try to detect IC leaks?

3. Have you check the turbo for shaft play and make sure it spins freely?

did you boost leak test with pressure or just look over it? check BOV flange, my biggest leak and headache. any smoking when u got it?(from exhaust) take the wastegate off and make sure the rod moves still, if its stock that is. my wastegate froze up and had me chasing my tail for days.

To think of it I think it was smoking alot under boost...

BTW I just used the soapy water trick for leaks.

^^Abd thanks dude, but the white beast isnt completely dead.

Turbo took a shit!!! Even with a few boost leaks, you should still be able to build some boost. Samething happened to me years ago.Same wooshing noise. I drove the car like that for about another week until the compressor wheel broke off the shaft lol.

Swapping 14b's today and I hope it works out. Than im running my Buds B18C1 Hatchback :)
