i'm looking on doing an engine rebuild, for my gs that is and i was wondering if the strength of the blocks is different between the two blocks , and if i really need the oil squirters, because i've heard that when you machine the block they end up missing anyways, sorry if its a noob question, but i'm looking to build as reliable dsm as possible:D

The actual blocks themselves are no different at all. The differences are in the piston CR, the oil squirters and a knock sensor (I think that's all). What are you going for with this rebuild? Do you plan on going turbo or staying N/A?

If you plan on having a turbo on your car I would definitely go with a turbo block. The cooling benefits of the oil squirters on the stock block or even a forged block for that matter are definitely worth the price difference between the two blocks. That just my $.02.

So, everyone is saying if I had a GS non turbo block, I could Build it into a turbo 4g63? that is if I installed the oil squirters? with Turbo internals of couse..
Also does the non turbo block just not have the threads for the knock sensor?
Im kinda running to into the same things as the thread open'r.
Any help would be great,
Jon

You can build a turbo without the oil squirters and with NT pistons(9:1). Me and a buddy built one for a guy with a 14b and NT tranny and it was quicker than a stock turbo car of course. The blocks do have the threads for knock sensor it can be any where around the middle of the block in the back.

The search button at the top of the screen needs to become your new best friend... This isn't the first time this has been discussed. You will need to research a lot if you are serious about running a turbo on your car.

Your a 2g... nothing in this thread applies to your car. You have a 420a engine.

To the OP, you can build a 4g63 into a turbo just fine. As long as you buy the correct parts, it will be a piece of cake. I'm using a n/t water pipe with a 14b... so i'm expecting a need to upgrade soon. But it can easialy be done. The 420a is not that easy.
