Well I blew my head gasket last weekend, head is getting milled, and I recieved my Cometic head gasket, its not the HP or whatever just the regular one. Anyways doing a search pretty much all threads said to use a good coating of Copper spray, but on one thread every one seemed to agree not to use it,

I just wanted some opinions before I put it back together this weekend, and if I should use copper spray, do I spray the block and head, or coat both sides of the gasket, or everything??? Also could use some tips on what to use to get a good finish on my block, I've used red and green scotch brite pads which really made it clean and smooth but not a mirror like finish.
Thanks for the tips in advance.

I have never used any spray on my cometic hg and I also never used anything to smooth it more than what it was already from the machine shop. Never had a problem with the headgasket blowing.
Then you aren't running your boost past 30lbs either are you. I have smoked 3HG's over 30lbs. 1 Cometic, 1 Mits MLS and a Mits composite gasket. Yes use copper spray. It just helps things seal better if there are imperfections on the block or head surface. I am now in the process of having the head O-ringed.

Well I dont think I saw any posts of people having pushed coolant on the MLS head gasket when using copper spray, or anything negative from using it, so Im going to spray it, seems like a smart thing to do.

Mine pushed coolant on both MLS gaskets with ARP's and copper spray. The O-ringed head is the best way to go no matter which HG you use.

I am in the market for this head gasket. I was just looking at extremepsi for it and there are three more sizes. I'm assuming that since my motor is stock i would need the 85.5 mm one but i wanna check first. Thanks
