wouldn't valve seals blow smoke just off idle and then clear up? That's always been what I've been told. Possibly a cracked head? take off your radiator cap, and start the car. If coolant goes all over the place, then you have either a cracked head, or a blown head gasket.

If it's valve seals, the car should puff smoke immediately on cold ignition. If you let the car sit overnight, or a day or more, and someone stands behind the car, and someone starts it, you should see the smoke almost immediately after ignition.

depends how bad they are. my old 1g at first just smoked at start up then it graduated to full time. I pulled off my exhaust manifold and there was a significant puddle on one of the valves. this was just from sitting over night.
