I've been slowly working on this for the last couple months and thought I would share. I saved a little money from the sale of my 2g to go straight into this car (probably not the best idea, but oh well).
The old 2g.

Anyway, back on track... it's an early 92 TSi AWD, 5spd, NO SUNROOF! The car was trailered from Vandergrift, PA to Grand Rapids, MI (damn that was a long drive). It formerly belonged to 9blktalon2 on here, and looked like this a few weeks before I bought it.

It was victim to some minor theft while sitting at a shop for over-heating issues/wheels. The previous owner decided to part with the car rather than keep messing with it... now the car is my problem. :p

I bought the car in October of 06 for $1000. It had no motor or trans, but it did come with the t-case, e-prom, walbro 255, GC's on AGX's, powerslot rotors and hawk pads all around with braided ss lines, symborski bushings, and black/charcoal leather. The car had been sitting in storage while I was away at Western Michigan University until mid-August 07.

I have big plans for the car. I'd like to eventually get booted from the track for breaking 9's, and then possibly getting licensed for it (Yes I know, Keep dreaming  ), but it should be a fun project.

Without further adieu, here are some pics of the car in it's new home.

Yes, I took care of the Eibach springs sticker on the back window (brake-kleen and razor blades are my friend). Next to go are the "powered by Mitsubishi" pads.

I sourced everything for an ABS delete, and plan to go with the alternator relocation bracket.

The alternator relocation means no more a/c, and the ABS stuff was just in the way, so they had to go.

Stock piling parts yet? :)
Slighty. I do have 2 6-bolt blocks sitting aside, as well as a trans and extra t-case waiting to get built. I'm trying to stock pile the cash to get done with school at the same time.

I worked at Belle Tire over the summer, so I got a decent deal on my rims and tires. They were the first real purchase for the car besides the Evo shift knob.

Nice looking rims.
What setup are you looking at? Or are you undecided?
So far I've decided it will be a 2.0. I can't make up my mind between a 4094 or 4202. With school right now, it'll be some time until it is done. So I have a while to think.

Hey since thats a future drag car why dont you let me help you get rid of that heavy leather interior? I know youll love the support and comfort of a fiberglass bucket. :D
Funny you should mention that.

After months of trying to source a pair of Sparco Fighters, my luck changed. I found some locally. I had originally planned to modify the stock sliders, but they positioned the seats WAY too high for my 6'2" frame, so I had to go the custom route.

My mechanical engineering background helped me to design these brackets very easily, and position the seats right where I want them. What started as 12 feet of 3" x 3" x .1875" angle aluminum is now just a small pile of scrap.

How they actually bolt to the seat.

Side shot. 3" off the floor up front. 2" in the back.

How it mounts to the floor to offset the seat. There's room for forward and backward movement if needed.

Stainless harware to hold it all together, and add that little extra! ;)

I still have to round some corners and make the edges all smooth, but I'm considering this part done. Dash removal and 10-pt chromoly cage install are next.

Wow, I haven't seen a set of those Quantum Teks on many other DSM's in a long time. I used to own them back in my beginning/semi-ricer days but ended up selling them to a Stealth guy. Looks a lot better on those cars I think. The new rims look nice.

That's some nice fabrication too.

What piston/rod setup?

Any advice to give? I would like to make my Laser into a drag-car aswell.
But I can't make up my mind about a fuel setup. :(

Thanks for the compliments guys. I've been fabbing with metal and wood since I was about 10, so these brackets were easy. I wouldn't call the leathers "pristine" maybe a 9.3/10 though. LOL But yes, they are being stored in the loft above my garage at the moment.

I'd love to go with some 8.5:1 JE's on Crower rods. We'll see when I get that far. As far as a fuel setup, I thought about going with a fuel cell, but I would like to still drive on the street sometimes and remain somewhat stock, so the stock tank is staying. There are plenty of people on here with fast cars and nice fuel setups. Just take some time and browse for ideas, then research the ones you like.

Well I got bored tonight and decided to pull the dash out. I thought this was fairly easy in the 2g, but damn this was a joke. It took 45 minutes tops! All I have left is the headliner and b-pillar trim, followed by dry-icing the sound deadening material.

Just to show how much clearance my sweet brackets give me.

The coolest "previous owner mod" ever. Hallman in-car MBC.

All thats left.

What ECU Managment are you going with? Haltech? AEM? Or with a Stock Eprom unit with DSMLink?

Whats the rats nest on the drivers side, and are you planning on moving the fuse box and un-needed parts to the interior?

Awesome progress and keep it up.
I look at this every time I'm on the interweb :)

There's boost gauge lines, mbc line, fuel pump re-wire, and a couple other random things there. I didn't really get a chance to figure it out yet. Just tore the dash out, and hit the books again. :(

I'd like to go with AEM, but we'll see what happens.
