Hey guys, As you might know about two months ago My stock T25 turbo blew
in my 95 GSX. 135K miles OBDII

Well this is after I had a 3" Exhaust installed.
I had that turbo rebuilt by Turbo auto in Nashville

Well After I had it rebuilt I was told by people that he doesnt do a good job
and after a month they blow. Some others swear by him.

Well I got it back and he rebuilt it with a new center cartridge and everything.

So I installed it and it was fine. Drove it for one month and it blew again.
I was driving and it began to smoke. So I took off the intake and no shaft play. No oil in the inlet either. I checked a few other things and I got 5 codes.

3 from not having a cat. (no cat, no res, no muffler)

Its stock DP to a 3" flex and to a 3" open exhaust.

Well Everything looked alright and then I was driving and I heard my turbo spool up and metal to metal sound.

So I stopped and this was half a mile from my house.
So I took off the intake and there is shaft play like No ones business.

So the seals blew again.

I have pics. I have a few questions.

1st: Can having a 3" exhaust couse so much loss in backpressure that its going to cause these problems?
Its a stock Dp so it still has Back pressure. But ofcourse less.

My other question is could there be a problem with my lines or anything?

their clean I checked before installing the rebuilt.

Also! I have a magnetic oil drain plug and this time I took it out (an hour ago)
and there was metal all stuck to it. Like chunks. But I could slowly rub them
to nothing with my fingers

Before the pics, I alrdy have another Cat Im going to have welded in.
its a stock so Itll go back to a tiny piping and then back to 3"
Basically its to get the Backpressure that I had before and so I dont get those codes anymore.
Unless thats not the problem. But I think im going to sell it so it needs a cat.

Also I paid $434 to have that turbo rebuilt.
Waste of money but I needed a car to drive to school.

As of right now Im going to take this off and have the guy rebuild it
one more time. free of course.
Or if possible get my 434 back.

But Im going to sell it so It doesnt matter.
 
First off you should not have had a t-2small rebuilt. Waste of money IMO. Your exhaust has nothing to do with your turbo troubles. The metal in your pan is probably pieces of thrust bearing that got put in your pan through the return pipe. Also could be some bearing material which is mostly normal as long as it is not excessive.

I would get my money back and just get a used 14b with lines and J-pipe for about $150-$175 and call it a day.
 
^^^What he said and don't change the exhaust unless you plan on taking out that stock part of the downpipe to a 3" also.

Ok thanks. I understand the rebuilt T25 for 434 was a waste of money.
I tried finding one for sale used and couldnt. And didnt have time to do anything else I had no choice. Thanks so there is no reason why it has blown twice?

The exhaust has nothing to do with it.
Time for a 14b, which will be a crapshoot with how old they all are now.

Or a 16g. Either of the mitsu turbo's will require the same amount of work to install. If you are on the stock fuel system still you will need to keep the boost low on the 16g. And possibly do some porting to keep it from creeping.

rebuilding a t25 is a bad idea. One unfortunately you see the results of.

Ok thanks alot guys. Not sure why I thought it was hard the first time.
I just had never worked on a dsm before. Always honda swaps Non turbo.
I just got done taking everything off. I laugh at myself for puting it off it only took an hour from start to finish.

Well its def the seals.

Im going to talk to Turbo Auto and try and go about getting my money back.
If worse comes to worse Ill have him rebuild it under warenty.

Thanks for the help. Considering Im a noob when it comes to DSMs
and I understand the frustration towards me. lol

Im still thinking stock t25 would help to sell it.
Even If i fix it I wanna sell it. Doesnt have a sunroof and thats something
Im really wanting. Im sure I can find a 2g GSX with a sunroof.

Ok so I called the guy and Im taking it in monday so he can look at the turbo.
He said he offers free rebuilds for a year if something happens. Well I told him the seals blew and its leaking coolent and oil outside the housing like pictured. Well he said he doesnt know if he will rebuild it becuase the only way to get coolant into the turbo is if its got a bad headgasket and thats even tho its oil and water/coolant cooled.
I was like wtf ok whatever so Were going to see monday. Hope he doesnt fuck me over

Sounds like he's going to try and weezle his way out. Don't let him. Also, please replace that timing belt before it snaps on you, looks a bit leathery. Don't for get to replace the BS belt too or better yet, don't use it at all.

I dropped the turbo off at the shop. He is going to call me back/
He said the bearing blew out. "Never seen that before"
Bullshit if you ask me. Your job is rebuilding turbos and you have never seen
a blown bearing? Well When he calls me back Im going to demand A refund and he can keep the turbo. Or He rebuild it free of cost Becuase he said I have a 1 year warrenty....
