Newbie installing trans

Well i'm finally ready to put the trans back in my car. I bought the car with the trans already out in pieces so I didn't take it out. They unbolted the trans mount bracket from the trans to take it out (it was still bolted to the mount on the frame), i'm wondering if I can bolt the bracket to the trans and install it in place or if I have to do it the same way they did

?

Its easier to leave the mount on the car. Just get the motor and trans lined up, put a couple bolts in the top of the trans. Then jack the motor and trans up til you can get the trans mount bolted to the trans.

they way ive done it its with the bracket in the car if i can remeber correctly

Is there anything wrong with the mount or anything wrong where the mount bolts up to? Maybe they did something you dont know about?

There's nothing wrong, just seems like it'd be easier to slide one through bolt in rather than trying to align the tranny bolt holes with the bracket in the car and possibly stripping those fine threads. Why does the down-pipe need to be unbolted? Doesn't look to be in the way at all

It is not very likely that you will strip them out other than the fact you are a noob but it is not hard line up the holes its pretty easy to move it around don't forget its the bolts with the nuts on them

There's no nuts on them, they bolt into the trans as seen here in the vfaq:

The way I prefer installing the trans is to:

Unbolt the trans mount from the frame through the fender (4 14mm bolts)
Unbolt the trans mount from the trans (2 17mm bolts as pictured above)
Lift the trans to the engine, and slide them up to the dowels (you do have yours, RIGHT?)
Stick a bellhousing bolt to hold it in place, and then torque in the rest
Then torque the trans mount back to the trans (17mm bolts as pictured above)
Hang the frame side of the trans mount onto the transmission, with the long bolt finger tight (17mm nut and bolt i think)
Jack the engine/trans to alignment
Then reinstall the mount as a whole assembly with the 14mm bolts through the fenderwell
Finally torque the long nut and bolt (17mm)

I have cross threaded 2 trannies doing this.... I highly suggest against it.

But then again I fail from time to time.
