Yeah i had just done a 6bolt swap on a 97 eclipse and i have the 1g CAS which u have to set with a timeing light which i can do but also u have to gound out the ECU which can be done one a 95 or below but 96+ has no grounding plug so how would i do this w/o needing a DSM link? there has to be a way to do it.
Disable fuel then pull plugs. Clamp #1 plug wire, have someone turn over engine while you look at timing on the light. Then have someone turn cam angle sensor till you hit 5 degrees BTDC. When the engine is cranking the ECU isn’t advancing timing.

phew thats good cause i was going to by a logger just so i wouldnt have to use a dam timeing light and put the cover back on which will be a pita sence the motors installed.
I'm going to give you a warning. Use your shift key where appropriate and don't use TEXT speak when posting. Do it again at your own risk.

Good luck with your problem. You're getting some good advice from people.

Ok so do i or do i not need the timming belt cover on the car when useing the timming light? Casue i took it to a DSM dude here thats all into 1gs and 6bolts and he said i would have to have the plastic timming belt cover on the car to hit with the timming light why i do not know so there for he could'nt set the CAS. And if this is so then this defeats the whole pourpse of getting a logger and i will save my money and get a DSM link.

BTW the dude i bought it from had his set w/o the cover on so there has to be a way to do it.

any one here close by the 74901 zip code that would like to help me with this?

Your going to have a lot more work ahead of you if you cruise around without any sort of cover on your timing belt. I hope your confused and the lower cover is on your motor.

Yes, you need the timing belt cover to set the ignition timing. The hash marks/ignition timing marks are on the timing cover (for reference) so you know when/where #1 cylinder is firing before top dead center. You need to find a cover.

well fick thats what i dreaded that SOB is going to be a bitch to get on i already tryed putting it on once already and there is no room to even get it on w/o pulling the mortor out of the car :( I would had put it on when the motor was out but forgot the dam cover at home and my 7bolt cover wouldnt work and i remember the guy i bought the motor from didnt have it on so i did'nt think it was such a big deal. So any way what would be the most simplelst way to get this cover back on the car? cause once i get the cover on i know someone that can do the CAS setting i just wanted to find away to do it w/o putting that cover on.

Follow step 1-7 to put the cover on in your car from this article. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-1G.html

I better get this stright before i buy a logger so if i buy a logger to set the base timming do i still have to ground out the ECU which is a problem cause 97-99 dosent have that opition so if i have to gournd out the ecu and still use a timming light then what would be the point of getting a logger?
