I am about to start replacing my clutch in my 98 spyder gst...I have spoken to turbo21psi and he is giving me the impression that it is not that difficult(thanks turbo, just getting some more opinions no offense!). I have replaced radiators, a/c compressors, hoses, rotors, speakers, stereos, etc. None of these were that difficult... I am pretty mechanically inclined, but have heard that a clutch should be professionally installed. On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being most difficult) what would you guys rate replacing a clutch?? Also, avg time it took? I just dont want to get into something I cannot handle...

All advice is appreciated,

98 Spyder GST
-modless, for now... :)

I am also about to replace my clutch. The Mitsu dealer said the job books at 7 hrs. When you get the clutch out take the flywheel out and take it to a machine shop to have a surface cut done. This will remove any hot spots on the surface and match the new clutch better. This will reduce any possible chatter in first gear and reverse.

Or this is a good time to go with a lightened flywheel. If you want to later .... its a hard change of mind :-D Lots of people like RRE will let you send your core back after you swap. Personally on my next clutch swap I am gonna go with a JUN(9lbs) or something similiar.

lightened flywheel huh...I have read some posts on it... But do you really notice the difference? Performance increase? I guess I should do since I am going to have everything out anyway. If i buy a new flywheel, do I need have it surfaced as well?

Well if you change your mind later you have to do it all over again. And after you do it once, you wont wanna do it again! :-D

I have only had the RRE lightened flywheel, revs were faster, and the car seemed more smooth. But the one they sell is just a lightened stocker. Down to like 15lbs.
