Now I got my first dsm! (yay me) and it needs a new fuel pump, the car is completely stock and I plan on keeping it that way for now. But I looked at the price for a replacement fuel pump around here and lets just say its up there. I wanted to know how reliable getting a used one would be, and if getting a new aftermarket one would need any supporting mods? its been sitting for about 2 years but it runs good now, had all the fluids checked/replaced, new plugs/wires and the timing is right on :) Just needs the fuel pump.

Any info would be greatly welcomed :)

Just get a walbro 190lph pump, they are around 80 + a little for shipping. You don't need anything else to run it. You might rewire the pump while you are messing with it. And check the tank for rust, that is the number 1 reason for fuel pumps to go bad is rust in the tank, if there is any rust, either have it coated or replace it.

Well $100ish for a new Walbro 190/255 is about average and if you consider that alot of $ you may want to replace the FP, sell the car and quite while you are ahead.

Honestly if you plan on keeping the car stock for awhile and it has been sitting for 2 years, I would pick up a used stock pump for maybe $10 and call it a day. Odds are you will need to save the $ on maintenance.

If you plan on doing mid level modifications in the future. I'd do a straight placement with a 190LPH fuel pump. It won't require an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Best to do a fuel pump rewire while you're back there. That will be the best supporting fuel mod you can do for a stock car with potential for running up to a 20g or so.

Get the 255HP Walbro Pump. Spend the extra $20 and modify once.

The 1G doesn't have fuel pressure overrun problems like the 2G AWD guys do. I ran 10's on the stock fuel pressure regulator, 950cc injectors and a Walbro 255HP pump. This $100 fuel pump will satisfy all of your goals until you pass the low 500WHP range. No reason not to purchase this pump, especially for the price.

Wrong actually, a walbro 255 will overrun a 1g fpr.

Agree but I just let it ride. I'm sure he was overrunning it but probably attributed any richness to his injectors.

I'd never run the 255 without an AFPR. It can be done, but I'd never recommend it. For the OP, I think a 190 would take him a long way. Up until he decides to run serious power where a 255 would be required. I've found the 190LPH on a rewire to have provided everything I'll ever need for the Evo III I'll be running.
