I bought some taillights and only half of the LED works. I wanted to return it but the company sounds like that are going to blame it all on shipping damage and not a defect. Is there any advice to fixing it myself? Anyone with experience with circuit boards.

No. The two on the inner side blink for the turn signal. That same light on the passanger side is fine all lit up. It all worked fine for a day. Then my neighbor was following me and noticed it and said something.

See:

Brakes presses: The four towards the middle light up. (not counting the two in the center as there are no LEDs there.) and the LED strip on the trunk lid lights up. (turn signal are the same on the respected side along with a few LEDs in the side Red 'points')

I'm sure it's a similar problem to the halo headlights that burn out early. The vendors try to make the LEDs brighter than they should or use "B" batch LEDs and they burn out quickly. I would bet these are wired with 4 in series and only one LED is out but it takes the other LEDs down too, just like old Christmas tree light used to do. If you can take it apart and take closer pics front and rear of the boards I can possibly assist.

I did not realize this was Sanfrancisco? Riceroni!!!!!
No one was asking for your opinion so don't bother posting if that's all you have to say.

OP,

Zooming in on your photo those LEDs look like they may be the same layout as Lumiled's Superflux 4-leg square LEDs. If so, I have replacements for them. Let me know if you are able to open them up for inspection.

Little off topic, but dude, I really, really like your Spyder.
Haha thanks, I like that new 1g you picked up.

Update on the lights, UPS showed up and took them. Doing a damage check or something who knows. So right now I'm on standby. If they replace them then cool if not, I will attempt my way to the circuit board. How would I get the lens off? Gasket remove in the silicone seal?

I don't know if it will work on your style taillights but normally you can bake taillights for just a bit and the silicone will loosen up so you can remove the lens from the housing. If you try to pry or cut them off you could possibly damage them. Somebody else with more experience might chime in here...

Listen to this guy, his LED work is legit. I read the whole thread on t00nerz awhile back and they look great.

I am not sure if it is the same with tail lights, but you can bake headlights at 350 degrees for 2-3 minutes and pull them apart. I would imagine you could do the same for tails.
Maybe headlights can stand that kind of abuse but not tail lights. For headlights I pre-heat to 200F, turn off the oven and let the parts sit for 15 minutes then try to pry gently. Re-heat as required.

Aftermarket head lights or tail lights will not tolerate what OEM housings can withstand. Tail lights use thinner plastic and were not designed to take the abuse from rocks and heat like a head lamp housing. I never exceed 150-160F in the oven with tail lights and go really slow when prying them open.

Bringing it back...

So I sent them back and got new ones, now these did the same thing 4 LEDs in the middle center light arn't lighting up. I don't think its the LEDs themselves.

Here is a picture of the circuit Board:

The Four that arn't working are at the bottom. The one with the single ground wire, and the three to the left.

Daaamn, at the risk of sounding like a ricer... That shit is mad tight:). Aside from the middle piece, I actually like your lights. Nice, good luck with your build and your repair.

Yea, the L.E.D. are bright so I'm thinking about just blackin it all out so the center isn't so dumb. I can pop out the red part but the two circle remain in the center so I dunno.

I'm pretty sure its one of the black capacitors? One is putting out more power than the rest so I assume it over powered the LED and blew the series. Rgey don't have a marking so I don't know how to go about replacing them with the right part.
