Just wondering what appearance trends ppl are seeing in their areas. Definately the trend on this site to get away from body kits and wings. And I have to say that the Eclipse is probably the most over kitted car in history. At least 1/3 of the Eclipses around here have at least an aftermarket bumper. The number 2 contender for that title here is the Honda Paseo.

But at the shows you are going to, even at the local level are you seeing a change in this trend? Or anything new for that matter? Or is the industry pretty much stuck in the same old rut of "how much extra junk can we hang on a street car?"

Paint? Graphics? Airbrushing? Bright colors or muted?
Decked out or shaved?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. I don't think the eclipse is the most kitted car. That would have to go to any year/model of Civic. They are the cheapest to get a hold of.

As for trends, lately in my area everything is turbo'ed. Any time you go to a local hangout, it seems like EVERYTHING is turbo...Civics, RSX's, Old beater pontiacs...lol

Including my cars, I have seen 6 DSM's around here.

2g Spyder, Black Cherry, unknown if its turbo or not, old lady driving it.
2gb Red non turbo.
1g, black, not sure if its turbo
2ga Talon, FWD Turbo with a front bumper kit on it thats for sale

Then mine, neither kitted.

It seems like only n/t dsm's are rockin big kits and wings. If I had to say a trend was starting, at least amongst dsm owners, it would have to be the "clean and mean' look.(I just made that up). Low and aggressive, shiny and stock. Or at least some variation of OEM parts like 2gb conversion etc... Hunduhs will always have their wings and altezzas though.

Yeah around here in MD, I don't see too too many turbo Eclipse's, although there are a few. For the most part, the one's around here have rims and exhaust. Usually no huge wings or body kits, but there are one or two. The majority of DSM's are pretty much unmolested appearance wise.

Were rockin the stock as a rock look over here and the occasional set of rims.

Mostly what Ive seen recently:

4-5 2ga n/t eclipses like everywhere you go
4 or so 2gnt talons
2 2gb gsx's
1 2gb Tsi awd
my 1gb Tsi awd plus one more I think
a boat load of misc 1ga/1gb (I saw 4 different) ones in about a 5 mile round trip

I see a LOT of Acura/Honda's with either stock or steel 14" rims up front with a 17" aftermarket rims in the rear. These cars also have horrible spoilers or a bumper with crappy slammed suspension. Its so sad they just can't seem to afford 4 nice rims. I bet if they didn't buy all of the other crap parts they can make their car look good with a full set of rims. Oh and I know its not for "street racing" because these cars are sh*t boxes.

As for going to shows, I think its still a lot of bling. The cars I pay attention to are the ones who've gone the , "less is more." Clean, painted engine bays, well thought out engine mods, interior cleaned up.

I saw a blacked out GS a few days ago. There aren't many DSMs that don't belong to teenage girls around here. There is a shady little shop that's bringing a bad name to the DSM community but so far not many people have taken interest. Biggest problem around here is the little Civics with their purple headlights, and new GTO with vertical doors and a loud pipe. There is a 2JZ Supra around that someone gets out every once in a while, but it at least appears to be stock.

I did see a neon green Eclipse a while back, and I believe it was a 2ga, but I'm not sure off hand. It was from out of town and I haven't seen it since.

The only show that we have right here in town is generally populated with muscle cars, don't even get me started about the 68 Charger R/T. :D
There were some ricers that tried to show up a year or two ago but they got run off for being jackasses. I'll probably get the GS-T out to that at least a couple times this summer just because it'll stand out like a sore thumb.

Where I live its kinda weird, I had never seen any 1g eclipses or talons here. I did see one laser about 20 miles from where i live. But it seems like after my buddy bought his talon I had to get my eclipse, and after that a boom in 1gs, i mean the other day i counted literally 5 eclipse on my way home. And my GF says all of her friends are looking for 1gs so I'm gonna say thats the new thing around here... non-turbo 1g's.

I'm guessing that because this thread is in "DSM Tech Central" and "Body and Appearance", the trends you're asking specifically relate to DSMs.

What I think a lot of people want that currently own DSMs is a relatively stock but slightly custom look. What I mean by that is they are looking at threads like the 'Home Depot lip', 'painted center taillights' and 'bumper swap' threads and finding ways to use stock and custom parts to give the appearance of a stock car, but to the informed car enthusiast you can tell the car is custom.

Around Bristol TN there is the JDM FAD going on everyone is trying to be all mad tight JDM YO. It is starting to kill me call that all honda people talk about JDM this JDM that. There is also the riced out body kitted cars. Then you have the newest fad. Which is also in honda where they are putting spacers in the back of there hood to prop it up for what they say is better air flow LOL silly honda people.

It depends. That is actually an old school muscle car trick to help keep the engine cool. (ie stuff a big block in it and you can't run a larger radiator.) Contrary to what you may think, it works. So, better airflow? Yes. Is it valid in their application, no?

Paseo's arnt made by honda, they are made by toyota. And what is the point of this thread? To bitch about what ricers put on their car?? All this is gonna do is start arguments.

Sorry I meant the Del Sol, little dinky 2 seater beaters. There are like 4 of them around here, all kitted. I can't keep the names of the Honda's and the other boring imports straight, half of them look alike to me.

Not trying to start any kind of arguement. As far as I am concerned, to each his own. It's your ride, do what you want to with it. I'm just wondering where things are trending. All trends tend to be reactions to the one that came before. The emerging smooth but not quite stock look is a reaction to the previous kitted out and ricey look. People get tired of seeing one thing so they go as far away from it as they can.

Personally wish people would quit ragging on each other over what they do to their rides.
