I need a cold air intake intake for my 2g to replace this accordian looking piece of crap. I think I know the answer and I did a bit of searching but I wanted to double check. If I buy a Ebay cold air intake system with the cheapy cone filter I wont have a problem just tossing the cheap filter and using my cone K&N? Something like the following link but only using the intake pipe, and keeping my non-3inch K&N cone on the other end.

I am assuming this is for a N/T. You wont be getting much of a cold air setup on a turbo model because of the location of at air meter.

Basically, this is what you need.

Haha should have checked the link. It will work

Go with dejon they make great intakes and there are many good deals on here for them.

What you posted in your link will work fine. If you are turbo'ed then its not really a "cold air intake" although many just say it like that. What you will need to do is check the diameter of your k&n cone and make sure it matches whatever intake pipe you decide to go with. I had a ebay intake like the one linked to on my gst, worked fine. Truth be told, the cone filter that comes with it will not be much different then the k&n.

Of course, if you felt like makeing a "cold air" intake for you gsx, then you could fab up somthing like this.

I had some extra pipe laying around so I just did a few quick fabs and got this. I then decided I didn't like the metal, and went with some pvc pipe and painted it black. That ended up looking like this.

I was hoping someone was going to post a picture of a setup like this. I spent a little while trying to find a picture of a true cold air setup like this instead of just the turbo intake pipe but couldnt find one and gave up. The cool thing about the ebay kit is that it already gives you the adapter to come off of the MAF and the filter for this kind of set up. All you have to do is make, or find, the pipe you need to route the filter down in front of the tire.

Ask RippinGSX about his CAI setup.

For those of us that do not feel like searching, http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160541&page=3&pp=25.

This setup worked fine. I only had one time that weather was an issue. I was driving in one of the worst down poors I've been in, and there was standing water on the road that caused my filter to get pretty wet. I was a little worried but the only thing I noticed was the car ran basically the same as when you have the air on.

what difference is there between the ovalshaped K&N thats "universal " and the one made for the Eclipse they look identical however the eclipse model specific unit is 120 bucks and the universal is 60. ? I have a DEJONTOOL setup in the mail and I just need the right oval shaped filter right

I also use a ebay intake with several different filters. I initally used the PA (ones they sell at autozone for 25 bucks) and it did just fine. I recently switched over to a K&N and honestly, I felt no difference.

Ebay intakes work just fine for about 1/4th the cost, just remember that they usually send the wronge sized coupler to connect to a t25 (its about 1/4 too big) so you can pick one up locally. You can actually make the one they send work (slip it over the larger part of the housing instead of the smaller inlet part) but its kind of ghetto-rigging (sorry about the spelling) if you worry about that sort of thing.

Everything else fits just fine, you should be ok otherwise.

I've owned ebay filters and k&n's.. I will never get another ebay filter on mine. I had two that fell apart, and one that wasn't sealed around the edges so dirt and whatever could still be sucked in. The k&n is made from better material and wont come apart. Plus they are washable.

Dito.

the ebay intake PIPES are fine, but.... Egay filters FTL.

Of course you wont be able to "feel" the difference switching from ebay filter to KN filter. That's like saying you can feel the difference from replacing factory plug wires to aftermarket ones.
It is all about the quality.

Why would you cheap out on an already CHEAP part? You are sacrificing piece of mind to save barely any cash.

Yeah, and you can go ahead and keep buying your chinese ebay turbos and what not.

Do it right the first time, or don't do it at all.

Go back and reread my statement, I actually never said that I used the ebay filter, I specifically stated that I used the PA filter. Initially when they sent my intake they never sent a filter (and then later send 5 of them) so I just purchased the PA one. I wasn't vouching for the quality of the ebay filters, I stated that the intake iteslf was fine.

My question is what is the difference between the (universal oval cone filter K&N makes) and the (( Eclipse oval shaped cone filter)) Besides the 60 dollar price issue,
I have DEJONTOOL turbo inlet/ air intake and I just don't want to pay double for the same filter so whats the truth here
