Hello all,
Just acquired a 92 talon TSi loaded.Im not new to DSMs,but its been awhile since I had the laser...anyway.Not going to go into great detail, but Ive removed a ton of aftermarket stuff the P/O had installed. This car wont run.I cant hear anything from the Fuel pump.Ive got a FSM coming, but need to know the location of the relay.I have a 97 Talon FSM,but from what I can see there is quite a bit of difference in component locations over the 5 years.Since Im new to this forum please be kind...at 51 years old its hard enough digging around under the dash of this thing as it is.
Suggetions appreciated...direct email...redtalonstwoeagles@yahoo.com

Thanks for the quick response,I do remember my 97 relay was in that location, and looked prior to doing the post. There are however no relays attached to the bracket youre talking about on either side....any other ideas?

Fuel pump relay or mpi relay?

Excellent question...I "assumed" that there would be an independent relay for the fuel pump.I had this car towed to the house, the guy I got it from said it was running fine when he parked it.He used his other car for a couple of weeks, and when he tried to use the Talon again,it would spin over, but not start.Compression is good,wires/connectors appear correct.I removed a ton of aftermarket alarm system/sound stuff this am.Im thinking that the alarm system was designed to disable the fuel pump circuit.....For all I know the pump itself may have died,locked-up etc.I figure if I can find the relay that controls it I can figure it out from there....BTW the ECU is also new.Keep em coming guys......

Try the fuse box under the hood. Should be a 30 amp relay. See if it's blown.

Have you used the Fuel pump test circuit wire located under the hood to see if the fuel pump even turnd on? It could be that all the wiring/fuses/relays are good but the fuel pump took a dump.

If you test it and it dosen't work I would then track down the wiring between that and the pump and check the pump itself.

Since the last post,Ive found a Chiltons book that I forgot I had.....It covers the 92...anyway,I located the test connector, and jumpered it to B+...Nothing.
I have also followed the Test procedures for the EFI control relay, and so far its looking good.Ive got the +12 volts on terminal 10 in relation to ground. The chiltons manual directed me to the location of the relay, and I had to remove the ECM from its mount to get to the connector.Just so happens that I have a spare EFI relay, and it made no difference.IF im reading the schematic correctly, the Fuel pump test line is a direct feed to the B+ on the pump itself. This being the case, either the line from the harness to the pump is bad(which I doubt) or the pump winding is open.I suspect that I should read a low resistance to ground from this test connector....Im reading an absolute open....according to the 97 talon FSM the test connector should be a direct connection to the pump? am I reading this right?

That is correct the Test wire is a direct feed to the pump bypassing the relays and fuses. I agreed with you on the fuel pump harness and wiring. It is most likely not at fault. Next step is buy a fuel pump and toss it in.

You might as well get a Walbro while its apart.

Thanks for the replys,Im gonna think on it awhile. The problem Ive got here is this piece of crap Chiltons manual doesent have the print for the specific car.Im using info from the 97 FSM,and Chiltons to extrapolate whats happening here.It may be a week or so before my FSM for the 92 arrives. In the mean time I think im going to pull the fuel pump out and see whats happening. The trunk connector has 4 wires, two are going to be for the fuel quantity sending unit, and then one for the "hot" for the pump motor, and of course one ground. These colors dont jive with the print in the 97s FSM,neither does the connector layout.

Thanks again,and Ill be back.....:D

Good afternoon guys,
Im going to pull the fuel pump out of the car sometime this week to look it over,Ive been looking at my FSM for the 97 talon, and also at this piece of junk Chiltons manual, and there seems to be some confusion on wire color codes. If someone could tell me which wires on the fuel pump assy are for the guage unit, and which are feed for the fuel pump Id appreciate it.I could decipher this once the pump is out of course, but would like to power it up prior to removal to see what it actually does.....
Ive removed the upper plate from the trunk area, and am looking at the wires going into the pump assembly in the tank. One is obviously a ground line, there are three others....I would assume that the heavier wire is feed for the pump motor.....;) This is a 1992 Eagle talon TSi,AWD Turbo, standard tranny

It's black with a white stripe.

Does the pump work?

Not sure yet,it will likely be tomorrow afternoon before i can get to it.I THINK there is a black/white wire coming off the efi relay connector.Ill ring it out to see if the continuity is good top the pump itself. Will update when I find out.I still am not sure if there is an independent relay controlling the pump...Thanks!

Update...While I didnt get to put B+ to the Black/white wire,I did get the chance to use the meter on it.It shows open. between the wire and ground....Considering this is ultimately a brush driven dc motor I would suspect an open motor in the pump?...Ideas?

:dunno: Put power to it ...
