I was going up a hill and smelt this really bad brake fluid burning..As I was coming down the hill, I had to down shift because there was a speed zone.. After I down shifted, it was gone.. I couldnt go back up into any higher gears.. The engine will rev but it barely goes anywhere..I had to have her towed home because there was no way I could drive her home.. The clutch seems still engaged because I can shift into every gear, including reverse without having to push in the clutch peddle.. Also, when I push the clutch peddle down it falls flat to the floor.. I've bled the slave cylinder and pumped out the air.. If I pump the clutch peddle short and fast, it will bounce back.. but if I stop for a few minutes then push the clutch peddle in, it will not bounce back.. The clutch was replaced right before I bought it, like only 500 miles.. I dont think I could wear the clutch out so fast, and the master cylinder also looks new.. The slave cylinder doesnt.. So I'm thinking maybe there is a problem with the slave cylinder.. What are your opinions? Thanks!

When my slave cylinder went, the pedal went straight to the floor. Upon examination the slave was leaking and fluid was evident around the dust boot. The slave on my 1g was easy to replace and only cost $30, there is also a rebuild kit for $15. My first question is when you pump up the clutch and hold it does the pedal fade? If so I’m thinking leak, then you need to find where. If not, I’m thinking master. Either it needs to be bled or it is faulty.

Just replace both master and slave since they are cheap and easy to do. What you could do is fill the resivior with fluid then have a friend pump the clutch and you look under your car and see where its coming from...My slave it was coming from around the boot too and the little rod that goes through the boot came out so thats why.

I do...and it drained like 2 times while pumping for air bubbles..but i couldnt locate a leak
When you say it drained two times did you have any fluid left in the reservoir? if you pumped it completely dry (as you already probably know)you just put air back in the system...

Pedal going to the floor and the clutch burning are 2 completely different problems. If the master/slave was leaking and the pedal goes to the floor it means the clutch is still engaged to the flywheel so it would not slip.

There are 2 solutions I see for this:

Either The clutch wasn't installed correctly and not only do you have a master/slave issue, but the clutch itself has a problem not letting it engage the flywheel properly

2 It's worn out completely which is unlikely since you said it was new)

This is a lot that would have to go wrong at the same time, something is causing the PP to come off of the clutch disk inside the transmission.

The clutch was installed by a Mitsubishi dealer.. Yes, the clutch is still engaged, because I can shift gears in it without pushing the clutch peddle in.. I can even go into reverse.. I dont think its the clutch.. I cant find any leaking anywhere on it.. not on the floor under the dash either.. Johnnie, when I first checked it right after I bled the slave cylinder (which was filthy as hell), it was empty/bone dry.. I filled it up again..It drained out after I pumped the peddle..I pumped and kept the reservoir full.. I rotated off between my dad and I pumping the thing for 2 hours trying to get the air out of it..

Clutch engaged but shift without he clutch pedal doesn't make sense.

If it's slipping but there is no pedal pressure the problem is inside the bellhousing. It taakes pressure to make it slip as a result of something external.

You really need to try a little harder with your explanations...

Your saying that when the car is running you can put the car into gear without touching the clutch? If so the clutch is bad, plain and simple. If the clutch master, slave, lines, etc is bad it will grind if you try and get it into gear with the car running.

It felt it grinding before the car stopped.. I dont even have to turn the car on to shift.. It will shift with the car turned off.. it shifts when the engine is on... You know the peddle that you push down to shift... I dont have to do that.. i can have my feet outside the door and still go into all the gears
