I have just noticed that my pulleys are actually of set from each other. I looks like the alt. pulley is to far towards the left (standing at the front of the car). How can this happen? I noticed that squeals just got worse about 4 days ago an it is REALLY embarrasing. Should I just pull the pulley off and use washers to shim it?

When I changed my water pump, I put the pulley back on backwards and was squeeling and breaking belts for a few days until I realized the problem.
My friend did the same thing LOL.

Have you tried to tighten then belts up to make sure they are just no lose?
Or is it just so far off you can see it that bad.

You can tell it is offset but its really hard because there is so much stuff in the way. The water pump pulley has a hollow side and non hollow side. If it is on wrong doesn't it interfere with the powersteering pulley?

It might be possible to have the alternator in wrong where the long bolt goes through on the bottom and creates a hinge. I didn't think it would fit on there any other way but maybe the lobes are both on the right (driver's) side of the mounting lobes causing it to be sticking out too far toward the fender. You might take a look at that.
