Ok I know what and how a Turbo works, But i do not know what the difference is between a Supercharger and a Turbo. Can someone please explain to me? Thank you for the time.:confused:

However, in Layman's terms:

A turbo uses exhaust gas to compress the intake air. Pro's are energy is already expended and being reused for better effeciency. Con's are turbo lag.

Supercharger uses a connection to the engine crank that turns the supercharger. Pro's are instant power. Con's takes power to make power.

Is one better then another? like does one or the other put out more Horse Power?
 
Like my friend Buddah said, superchargers are good for cars that already make big power, aka V8s. Turbos are the greatest thing to happen to 4 cyls: they give them instant power, but the bigger the laggier. However, all that said, there was a DSM on here a while back that had a SC to spool his turbo.

But again, it's like asking what the best setup is, it's all up to the variables.

Ok, one more does a supercharger need a IC?
 
Supercharger is spun by a belt connected to the crank.
Turbo is spun by exhaust pressure leaving the motor.

Superchargers use power to make power
Turbo's use exhaust that is pretty much "free" power because it's waste.

Superchargers on lower boost dont usually need an intercooler because they don't heat the air as much. There are roots style superchargers and centrifical ones. Centrificals ones look very similar to a turbo, roots style's and screw types sit on top of the intake manifold. (like supercharged factory mustangs)
 
Turbos out-perform SC's in the high rpms and since
small engines like ours have the ability to turn much
higher rpms than big engines that is why they're used on our cars. ALTHOUGH they sometimes do (did) on cars like the Cobalt 2.0 and it was pretty quick stock (low/mid 14's) BUT to tune that car for lots more power you'd basically have to remove the SC and turbo it to get it. Like mentioned SC's are more common on big V8's and that's because they're not seeing high rpm's. As far as the intercooler goes it's the same as turbos in which low boost means you might not need one and on higher boost it is a necessity because higher boost means higher air charge temps which is not good for engine efficiency. I believe for everyday driving turbos are more efficient too concerning fuel economy and for example in Europe turbo diesel engines are quite popular in cars and turbo diesel big rigs are used all over the world including the U.S
