I just installed the topline revised lifters and I pump out whatever lube was in them, Installed pulled my mpi fuse cranked car for 30 seconds. Now I start the car and It gotten up to normal engine temps there is oil on the cams but the chattering did not go away at all.
Sounds as if they are still dry. Just worried, and was wondering How long does it ussually take till they quiet down?

Everything seems good, chatter is gone, There is a very small ticking noise, But I think it is probley an exhaust leak. When I had my integra gsr I always thought the valves needed adjustment But for months it was a very small exhaust leak lol.

The 4g63 motor is known for lifter problems. If its a small tick, and its not an exhaust leak, then I wouldn't worry all that much about it, but it could be pointing to signs of sludge in oil passages...

I just installed my revised lifters on my 90 GSX tonight. I followed the vfaq to the tee, I primed my system (did 3 cranks for about 5 sec a piece, oil light went out on the first try), and ran the car at idle for a solid 5 minutes, and they are still clattering.

It has me a little worried, because on initial start, the car was clattering, and my father and I noticed a funny smell once or twice. I was like...uh oh...sounds, smells, what the hell. My car also started to idle down and chug a bit, but it did that a few times before the install, so I'm not ready to think the lifters have anything to do with it. I haven't taken it for a drive yet, but holy crap, how long is the sound supposed to last? I'm a little hesitant to take it for a ride with the smell it made and the clatter it's still making...I don't want to push this thing home...

Well I drove mine for a good 15 minutes before they were actually silent, I still notice a ticking noise and pretty sure its still the lifters, I fixed all my exhaust leaks and when it is cold I notice it alittle more till warm.

I have a question about the lifter design.

I know the lifter is supposed to spin around inside the bore in the head during normal operation, but does the inner portion spin as well?

Here's a picture to show what I mean. The upper portion of the lifter which the rocker rides on also depresses. The inner circle I have marked shows where this protruding section of the lifter pushes down into the outer section of the lifter. The outer ring is the outermost part of the lifter that is in the bore. When the inner circled section depresses into the lifter, does it rotate as well?

The reason I ask is because the oiling hole on the sides of the lifters lines up with a hole in the inner portion of the lifter, and only in one specific spot of the exact size of this outer hole. If it spins, does it cut off oil to the lifter?

So, I took it for a drive, and most of them quieted up, but after about 15 minutes of driving, I still have clatter. The tick is worse than my old lifters...louder. :(

So, what's the next step if you've still got clatter after priming and driving for a while? I know it's lifter tick, because it's the same sound as before, but now it's a constant tick instead of an intermittent tick.

You probably should've just gotten OEM 2g or 3g lifters. I've heard horror stories about topline's oil pumps/front cases and I would personally never run anything that they've had a hand on. Other people might have better luck with them, but that's just me.

From what I've read, Mitsu buys Topline lifters and repackages them as Mitsu. Either way, my tick *knocks on wood* is gone. Car is quiet as a dead mouse now. It took almost 30 miles of driving, but it got there. The sweet sound of no ticking.

Now all I need is a 42r and I'll be set.

Ive done a few lifter changes with Topline and never had a problem. I just soaked them while I was taking the old ones out, threw them in, started it and forget about ticking. Never had a clack/click from mine, ever.
