Hey guys,
Today I went out to the garage to pull apart a 6 bolt that had low compression 120 all across...
I had a buddy help me out. Just before we were about to start I ran back inside to grab somthing and came out to him cutting the t-belt with a hack saw between the cam gears... The belt snapped just as I saw him and I heard the tensioner retract..

I was kinda pissed at him and told him if he messed somthing up he is going to pay for it, which he agreed to no problem.

I took off the timing covers and saw the balance shaft belt broken and all jammed up in the pullys.

I pulled off the head and I didnt notice any bent valves or marks on the pistons... So i'm guessing Nothing is wrong.

Is it possible that the BS belt was broken before I pulled the motor out?
the motor did vibrate alot but could have been because of the mount inserts..

What do you guys think?
Anything else I should check?

Thanks,

So it was running before? If the belt was jammed up, then it sounds like it was running like that. Why did he cut the belt rather than follow procedure and remove it? Put on new belts on, a new tensioner, do it by the book, crank it over BY HAND and make sure there is no interference. Take your time.

I wont have a chance to start the motor again for awhile...

Im thinking it happened while the motor was running... wouldnt the motor slip timing though if the Bs belt broke but the tbelt doesnt? If not what should happen?

I definatly am going to get the Bs removal kit for when she goes back together...

Thanks,

I just replaced one on the sonata and it's still under factory warranty :-(

The BS belt CAN knock off the Tbelt, but it doesn't always do it. You may have just been lucky here.:dunno:

after taking a second look, I'm pretty sure a few of the valves are alittle bent.

They must be bent all the way across.. Explaining the low compression right?
I also have a feeling the piston rings are warn out. The cylinder walls are nice and cross hatched with only a few barely noticeable vertical lines.

Without the Head on the block, Should it be hard to rotate the assembly?
I find it very easy. How much should it be resisting?

I have a feeling it's not going to take much to rebuild it.

Any suggestions on what I should replace?
I was thinking Arp rod bolts, head studs and Clevite rod and main bearings with a cometic head gasket. weisco piston rings and a decent set of valve seals.
