When I start up my 95 GSX, it has a strange buzzing sound similar to this video I found:

Buzzing sound increases with throttle. Not sure if its the timing belt or a problem with the balance shaft bearings or something else. Timing and balance shaft belts have recently been replaced by previous owner but the sound wasn't there when I purchased the car.

Went ahead and removed the oil pan and checked all rod bearings. Crank side-side play is within spec .007 (no crankwalk). No metal shavings or debris was found in the oil pan. This is the stock 7 bolt and I'd rather not spend much time or money on it since I'm currently building another engine but this one has to last me until the end of the year.

Anyone else ran into this issue with the buzzing sound?

Is this the same sound you posted about on CODSM? Did it go away and come back, or just get less annoying for a while :)

The noise in that vid sounds less like a buzz and more like high-speed metal to metal tapping contact. Have you pulled the valve cover to see if there's anything loose or broken in there? Have you checked your pulleys and belts to see if there's any misalignment?

Yeah, it the same video. Just looking for more input before I tear more into the engine. I haven't checked anything around the valve springs or pulleys yet.

I also checked the oil pan bolts and they were in the correct location.

I'm not intardweb diagnoser but to me it sounds like something possibly dragging on the timing belt. Have you checked your timing belt for any unusual wear?
I agree with RED, I had a sound like that coming from my bay and it turned out that the tensionsers were going bad on my timing belt and the belt was walked into the t-belt case.

Yeah, it almost seams that way. The belt does have a little wear on the inner edge so I will look for that.

I might just replace all the timing stuff at the same time.

I just got laid off today so I have lots of time to look at the issue now. :)

Sorry to hear about the lay-off, but you might as well just do all the timing stuff and have no worries in that department.

Did you ever figure out what that noise was? I'm dealing with that same noise. the only thing i can see wrong with my motor is that my balance shaft belt has broken, but im under the impression that that shouldn't cause a "vibration" noise. I will say that my motor was newly rebuilt by myself, and it is only the second time ive replaced the motor in this car. but it ran fine for about 2 weeks before it started making this noise. ive been back under the car and cant find anything loose. please help!

Yes, actually the broken balance shaft belt WOULD cause a vibrating noise. That is what balance shafts do, they offset vibrations caused by the motor. Anyway, I am having this problem also!!!! Please help me!!!! lol

I haven't took my t-belt off yet but I did remove the oil pan and inspected all the bearings. Everything looks great and the balance shafts don't seam to have any play. Ordered a BSE, just waiting for parts.

Well I just did a head gasket last week and replaced all timing components and got the balance shafts correctly in time and the vibration went away. Thank you guys for that. It has been bothering me for quite some time.
