Heres what I know:

Engine had a stock rebuild recently and the B-shafts deleted
140psi cold compression across the board
It is full of oil and has a new filter

I got everything together and turned the engine over with the MPI out and the stock oil pressure gauge wasnt registering anything. So, I bought a mechanical gauge and tied it in to the head next to the stock turbo feed line. Crank crank crank, still nothing. I've tried blowing into the valve cover and got a very small amount of oil in the plastic tubing attached to the gauge. I also tried it with the gauge off and pretty much nothing. I had the oil pan off a few weeks ago and everything looked great, nothing in the pan, and I turned it over by hand several times to get a good look at everything. Regretfully, I did not check the torque on the rods or mains.

Heres what I'm thinking. There is either damage to the pump, or it lost prime. The engine has been sitting since January, and when I was turning it over with the pan off I could hear the pump sucking air. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.
 
You could take the timing belt off and spin up the oil pump with a drill. I would personally opt for this to avoid the metal on metal of just cranking the motor till it pressurizes. If you can't get any pressure that way, maybe there's a problem with the pump, or you have a pressure leak somewhere else in the system.
 
Everyone says to pull the belt and use a drill, but theres a much easier way. Just undo the fitting on the oil filter housing where the stock oil pressure gauge sender is. (The sender itself I guess is what I mean) And then hook up a barbed fitting to that port, I belive its a 1/8 npt fitting. Then hook up a hose to it, and then hook up the other end of the hose to a fluide transfer pump or a big syringe. And then just keep pumping oil in there till it starts coming out the oiling holes in the head. Then your primed up, and you dont have to redo your timing. :rockon:

Also i assume if you pulled the balance shafts you would have blocked of the oiling holes in the block right, and the hole in the oil case? Youd have no pressure if you didnt.

Yeah, I've thought about both of those methods. Removing the T-belt being last choice. I actually have the sending unit removed and a fitting with a hose connected to it. I need to get a syringe tomorrow and follow through with it. If that doesnt work, looks like the belt is coming off.
 
Did you use a B Shaft eleminator kit. If not did you block the oil passages to the balance
shaft bearings, you can use the old bearing to do this just turn them so the hole in the bearing and the oil passage in the block dont line up.

It will deffanatly work. I just did it to my car a few weeks back. Just keep puming oil in there over and over till oil comes out the head. Then the engine is primed. And if you still dont have oil pressure your pump is fubbared. Or the pick up tube is loose or something to i suppose. :)

Update

Well, I got a little fluid transfer pump and I pumped almost 5 quarts of oil through the sending unit port. I removed the plug next to the stock turbo feed line and I got a very small amount of oil from the entire time I was pumping. I turned the engine over just to see if it would start flowing. Nothing. I know I was pumping through a small hose, but it sure took a lot of effort to work the pump. Also it sounded as if the oil was running into the pan. I guess my next step is to pull the timing belt and front case. Blah.

This method works awesome with a fluid transfer pump:)

NineD1talonz- take the oil cap off and have someone watch, you will see a little bit of oil reach the top when oil primed. then pull the mpi fuse and crank a few times then start.
 
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this is the only one I could find that is similair to my situation. Did you ever get the pump working? If so, what did you do? I just installed a used motor that I did the BSE on, and I tried priming it from a few different spots, but when crank it, I never see oil pressure thru the cam squirters, or even at the sending unit. I have no clue what to do next.... :dunno:
 
It ended up being spun bearings. All of them. :(
Wow, 3 years and finally found out what was wrong with it. Too bad, what did you end up doing with her?
