Well just when the TSI is running the n/t decides to have an issue, my guess is just for the attention.:dunno:

So I turn on the headlights and no light on the inside of the car lights up, meaning the gauge cluster, the gear selection(automatic tranny), the ash tray light, and the wierds one is the running lights on the back end of the car. So seeing as both tails are out...though if I brake I have been told all the lights light up. Fuses are all good, so I am left a bit stumped as usual any opinions would be appreciated.

Heh, I had this same problem with my old Honda, way back in the day. All of your interior lights run on the same circuit, which is *usually* in the in-cabin fuse block. The one in my Honda was also attached to my automatic seat belt stranglers, so the fuse isn't always labelled for lights. It's usually a pretty small fuse, and the damn in-cabin fuse block is a PITA to check, so take your multi-meter with you. The 'look at the fuse and see if it's blown' test doesn't always work, so check the voltage on both sides of each fuse to a ground, with the headlights on, and see if they are all genuinely working. If you find a fuse with no voltage on one side, there-in usually lies your culprit. Good Luck.

Dumb question but, are you sure they aren't dimmed all the way down? I had that happen to me one time and it turned out to be that....

Have you checked the ROOM fuse underneath the hood?

I had the same problem with my Talon, minus the rear lights. I checked every fuse, bla bla bla, until I realized it was the dimmer. The problem was not that it was turned down, but the dimmer was actually broken some way. It did not work at all, unless sometimes if I hit a pothole hard enough it would just light up everything for a second or two.

I ended up getting a dimmer from another 1G at the junkyard, problem solved.

Good luck!

Its likely the multifunction switch (headlight switch) on the left side of the steering column. That switch controls the dimmer, turn signals, head and taillights. I believe it controls the dash and HVAC lights as well. Now that I think about it I'd bet your ass its that switch. You should check for voltage at that particular switch. If its not that, you either have a short somewhere or a grounding issue. It would likely be a ground shared by those components. I'm going to check my 2ga electrical manuals and see if I can find you any good leads to start with. I can send you copies if you need (via email).

BTW it is possible for only a portion for that switch to have failed. If I recall I had a similar issue and it turned out to be that switch although my turn signals still worked. You'll see what I mean if it turns out to be bad. The traces run independently of one another.

I'm having almost this same problem.

I've always had the problem of the headlights dimming when the car is idling and them brightening when the rpms rise. What is weird, though, is I was on the freeway and all audio went to 1 speaker, then back to all 6 speakers, then 5 minutes passed, and it did it again. Then my head unit cut out, and came back on. So, I'm thinking alternator or battery, alt. mainly as the battery is newer (1.5 years), and as I"m thinking this, the abs light flashes, then goes away. Later that night, I drive home, the same distance, cars starts up easily, and the whole time the ABS light is flashing, going away, continuously. The headlights, stay on, bright, but the gauge, and climate control knob lights dim and go out, and come back on, and the turn signals are still working fine.

I go to work 2 days later, car starts up easily again, and still have problem of ABS flashing, and when I lightly press brake pedal, I can feel the ABS activate. During my break, I bought a voltage meter, and checked both the battery and alternator when running. The battery was at 12.3-12.5v and the alternator pole was at 13.9-14v; idling.

I have driven the car no radio, and no lights as much as possible, with no problems starting the car up. Sometimes the ABS light will flash once I bring the windows down/up, or flashes when I hit the brake, and it flashes at times when the rpms are at about 3300-3500, with no added electrical load. But what is weird, is that just the particular gauge and climate control lights will go out, while the car is running and the head lights are unaffected.

I had no clue as to what is happening, until reading this post, and even now there are some complications when compared to the original post. Psycho5150, could you let me know which wire grounded out. I have yet to check the alternator wire for any exposure, but I'm certain it is still good as I reran the wiring around the engine compartment. Has anyone had this happen before???

problem solved. The alternator wire that I ran around the engine compartment, was loose at the batter connector, such that a slight tug would pull the wire from its connector to the battery. Fortunately, I kept the original alternator line intact, and only had to reconnect at the alt. and battery and she is back to normal.
