First off this is not my car it is my wife's cousin's that I found for her...:wall: It is a 96 Eclipse GS NT-420A, and 2 weeks ago the CEL came on, then went off next day. Came back on last week and stayed on (Keep reading problem coming) so I told her to go to Autozone and get it scanned. She never did. Well over the weekend the neons under the dash went out, and yesterday the battery light came on. She stopped to get something from carry-out and when she came back out, she had a hard time starting(But finally fired) but the battery light went out?!? And it's running rough, keeps stalling at lights... I do not know where to start looking, searched and didn't find anyone with the same problem, so I turn to the specialists!!! I do not know much about the 420a eclipses/avengers, etc... so any help is appreciated.

Alternator, or the battery, or a ground wire. Check all the grounds, and check the battery terminals.

Also go through the fuses.

Update : This car is driving me crazy!!! :wall: She just called here and said she went out and it started perfect, and all the lights went out!!! What the hell?!?!? Does this sound familiar to anyone?? Any suggestions?? The only thing(s) that make any sense to me is ECU maybe crapping out, or it's in the harness somewhere... I am starting with testing the alternator/battery and going from there... I'm so glad I got someone else in the DSM world!!! :tat: "Oh my god that 2g is awesome, I want it!!!" - I hate my life, I have mine sitting on jack stands doing bodywork(Until this car came along!!) and hers is getting nicer and nicer, wtf!!! Someone tell me this has happened to them!!

It bothers me that I give many explanations, yet you have not attempted to eliminate any of the possibilities.

Do as I said, and get back to me.

Check fuses?

I am betting that a live wire is shorting out somewhere, and that is what is making the problem intermittent. There is no possible way for me to tell you where to look, so you will have to look for yourself.

I know you cannot pinpoint a short via the internet, or in person without hours of searching... The car has neons under the dash, washer led's, sound system, so i'm starting with those and hopefully it's got something to do with that!!! So you don't think ecu could be causing though, correct?

What drives me nuts is I am not new to dsm's, but this is totally different from the 1g's!!! I know not much about 2g's, but then again didn't know much about 1g's until this forum came into my life, you guys/gals are a big help around here!!!

Are you sure the sound system isn't draining things? Are you sure you don't need a power cap for it?

I would double, and triple check the wiring for every aftermarket part installed on that car.

I agree with checking the basics, as sebba had posted earlier. You're also wise to eliminate all the aftermarket items wired in, as these can be problematic (especially if the install job is less than professional, which they often are).

Doesn't SEEM like an ECU issue. I would take the advice already given above, remove your neons, etc., and see what you have.

No need to get frustrated (yet), as it's only a car. Just a matter of eliminating possible causes and zeroing in on the point of failure. Just be patient, check one thing at a time, and try not to get frazzled.

Let us know what you find after you've checked the mentioned areas.

Yes, for God sake DO NOT touch the car without isolating the battery.

Lol, the only reason i'm frustrated at all is I started working for myself and have less free time then when I worked for someone, and have my 1g in the garage almost ready for paint and spring is right around corner :D... But i'm working on her piece and not mine!! lol, welcome to dsm's right?? :eyejack:

Electrical problems are the worst man. Just recently a friend with a 1g had a problem of his parking lights and dash lights wouldn't work but headlights would. So I started chasing wires and looking up wiring diagrams and getting really pissed because nothing made any sense. Then another guy with a bit more experience than myself came to the rescue. The stereo had been removed and most of the wires were in there dangling around. Just so happened that the illumination wire of the stereo harness was grounding out. That simple. That wire is obviously not on any wiring diagram for your lights. Any bare wire, especially one not being used can cause headaches.

good luck
