The car doesn't take any time to start anymore. I starts from a cold start within 3 cranks so I know the CTS is good. Is there another sensor that controls the fans or is that the only one? I let the car run until it got to the point of almost hitting the high but normal mark. That is when I shut it off since the fans did not come on and I know the car is set up stock to come on before the point that I turned it off for the fans themselves.
Explain what mark, sitting dead center or the mark before H? If it is just getting to the normal mark you will need to let it run a little more, it takes forever for my cars to turn the fan on. It will sit at the normal mark for a little while and than they will turn on. If it still goes up in temperature than shut it down but let it hit the normal mark and keep it running.

I let the car get up to just above the mark on the fuel gauge that reads 3/4 tank of gas (if you look at both of the gauges since they are next to each other). After it hits that point, I shut it off.

Yes I can jumper the fan wires. I have also been able to take the pin out location for the CTS and ground it right there and the fan comes on.

Ok, now where did you pick up the CTS sensor? If you got it from anywhere but the dealership or JNZ you got the wrong one. The auto stores don't sell the one for our years, they give you 97 CTS and the plug is different, I have been through this hole thing before, the next time you start it up and it gets to the half way point, try unplugging the CTS and your fans SHOULD come on. If they dont there is a bad relay or fuse.

Yes, I got the sensor from Auto Zone and today I am going to the dealer to pick up the one from them. I know that the relays and fuses are good since I can bypass the sensor itself and the fan comes on. How is it that the plug for the 97 CTS is different? Does the sensor read a different resistance than the 95 does? The plug fits right on the sensor so that is the only thing I can think of that would be different.

Okay, I went to the dealership and I found out the difference in the 95-96 CTS and the 97-99 CTS. The plug in for the connector is completely different. The dealership tried to sell me the CTS for the 97-99! I had them go off the VIN # on the car and that was the CTS that they have shown for the car. Does anyone know what the part number is for the CTS that I need? I am sick of trying to argue with the dealership in order to get the correct part.

According to the CAPS program and the dealership, the original part number for the CTS is MD182467 and it is superceeded by MD177572. This part number is the one for the 97-99 CTS. Is there a wiring harness adapter for this sensor and is the computer going to read it the same as the one for the 95-96? I know that the only thing that the sensor does is ground the computer control and then the fans turn on so would this one work for the car or is it just a waste of time trying to find the harness from a 97-99 and replace the plug so that I don't have to deal with this crap anymore?

I've had 2 coolant temp sensors go bad in my car. I have a greedy fan controller witch is cool cause it shows you the temp that the computer see's (same as CTS), not what the gauge see's. When they went bad I saw a 20-30 degree difference it the readings. Another cool thing about the greedy unit is, if the CTS is bad you can change the fan controller to turn the fans on whenever you want anyways.

I might have to look into this unit. It would be a heck of a lot better than the switch set up that I was thinking of running until I got the problem figured out. I was planning on running a switched wire from the CTS (pin 83, I believe) wire at the back of the ECU to the sensor ground wire (pin 92 I believe) at the same location. Where did you pick up the controller at?
At least with this controller I would be able to monitor my coolant temps and control the fans when I wanted them on.

Does anyone know what other cars came with the sensor harness that is used in the 97-99 eclipse? I am thinking of switching over the harness connector so I don't have to deal with this sensor rummage crap again at the dealer.

Hello there I have the same problem, here's the details on the car, it's a 99 mitsubishi eclipse gst 2.0 turbo. I have fuel and spark, but it just cranks and wont turn on, and it sometimes makes a pop sound out of the exhaust, i dont know what it is, i've changed the crankshaft sensor, and put new coils in,n I'm looking to put in a new transistor also. what could it be? help!
