I have to admit I can't tell an LT1 from an LS1 .... I do know that the pointed nose Firebirds are LT1s....Are'nt the Good looking Firebirds with the smooth curvy frontend and big popping headlights LS1s?? The car I raced had dual exhaust and the outlet was shaped like this (__) (assume that there is a line on top too :))

Is that an LS1? or LT1?

I raced one coming back from the clubs friday night that's right the same night I raced the 68 Camaro.........I was with my a friend of mine and we were cruising at speed limit when this Red Trans Am/Formula goes past ...as soon I see it I tell my friend there's a target you can't miss and catch up to him....I pace him for a bit still in 5th(around 70 MPH ) and downshift...he's at my door when I do this.....but does'nt respond so I punch it and get about 5 cars ahead but he's not racing so I let it be in 4th and wait for him.....

He gets on the gas when he's two cars behind me.....I react to that and get in the gas....and he's at my side by now but not going anywhere....by 105 I had a couple of cars on him and was pulling away.......
I shut it down and he gets next to me.....there was a blank look on his face was......reality had not sunk in ......it was a look of shock / disbelief.......I smiled and waved for him to go......

This time I let him leave and started about a car after he left and reeled him in and had a car by 105-110. Then I just slowed down and went to cruise speeds...he stayed back for a bit and then passed me normally he still had that look on his face.............

LS-1 vs LT1

The easiest way to tell the two apart is the LT-1's have square shaped reverse lights and the LS-1's have round shaped reverse lights (on the T/A's and Formula's) They also have a more aggressive looking front end. The Camaro's also have a different front end, more of an "import" type look..less Muscular but actually rather classy. Both variants sport different wheels than their LT-1 counterparts, but that can be more difficult to distinguish at speed. All variants also find themselves in my rearview at all times, but details..:)

Both the LS1 (98-01), and the LT1 (93-97) Z28s had the same type outlet. In fact, the only difference in the rear of the car is in the taillights and even that's not foolproof. On the 93-96 LT1's, the tailights were only red and white. But on the 97-01 (97 LT1, 98+ LS1), amber was included for the turnsignal color on the tails. So, even if the rear end has amber turn lenses, it still could have been an LT1. You didn't see the front when you blew right by him??? :)

The above only applies for Camaros.

Can't you tell from the exhaust??

I thought that the older formula / trans ams had two dual tipped exhaust outlets. This one with the prettier headlamps...the big ones and the better looking *IMO* front end. You can see a pic of a Deep Metallic Blue car(same front end) like the one I am talking about on LS1.com(homepage). I am confused because of the different exhaust outlets that these cars have. I've seen tow dual tiped ones.....two single round piped ones.....and I believe some aniversary edition had just one big exhaust oultet for the V8....and the one like this (__).

Anyway I'd kill any stock LS1/LT1......a 100 shot on an LS1 and it would be an interesting race from a stop......I'd need to upgrade to a 20G for a Highway battle.

Ya it sound like you beat yourself a LS1. They had the nicer front end imo. Go post this on ls1.com. see how much shit they talk. One time I even posted a vidio of me beating a new WS6 and they still didn't belive me. LOL

Any Good kill, If you are really getting a 20g drop me a e-mail if you wanna sell the big 16G

You know that a lot of the guys at LS1.com are cool, but there are always people that will come up with statements like....

If he had so and so he would kill you and such. Then there's always the bang for the buck argument....its pointless and never ending.....I will post the story there though :).

the last time I posted an LS1 kill I did'nt get much $hit.

I saw the video and followed the posts at Camaroz28.com and other sites......I don't plan on stepping up to a 20G till probably end of next season......I am planning on getting cams and some wider, stickier tires and getting the best possible time out of this setup.

lol, i saw that video. very nice. stopped under a bridge, launched on his ass, and at like 3rd gear it looked like you had 20 cars on him, atleast it looked that way from the car that was taping the race. that is one of my favorite dsm video's.
by the way, welcome to dsmtalk.

I saw the video also and i dont think the Trans AM was racing. Even the camra guy said the guy wasnt giving it all. If he was racing i am sure he would bark the tires atleast. Looks like DSM got a nice head start with a awsome launch, and the guy in a trans am just didnt go. Just my opinion.

How can you possibly say they weren't racing?!?! They lined up together on an empty road, stopped side by side, and then both launched at the same time. That kinda stuff doesn't just happen at random. The WS6's rears do chirp when he hits second. The reason he's not going all the way is because the DSM put 5 lengths on him before he hit 60. Watch the video again.

Well then it was a pathetic launch on the Trans Am part cause he didnt even chirp the tires, maybe the guy didnt know how to launch his 325 tq beast of the line. Try to race a automatic or a well driven 6 speed F-body of the line. Even if u do have the AWD its goin to be hard to pull on them aspecially on a Automatic f-body with a stall covertor.

supasaint to the rescue......

supasaint i must admit that everytime i read your posts i just end up laughing my ass off. your quit a funny guy. that's the same response that we got from the ls1.com board. one guy even called awd a "power adder". lol. please don't leave. i need a good laugh daily and you alawys come through for me. i've pretty much beaten every model f-body there is and the only one that gave a real challenge was a supercharged 6 speed that i got a 2 car length on at the launch and held it well past 100mph. please don't make excuses for the guy because i happen to work with him and know the car. he was pretty cool about it, he knew he got beat and told me that he never thought my 4-banger could go that fast. now he has the utmost respect for it and we are fairly good friends. why can't everybody be like that??

Oh No ....Not again

Not again fellas.....

Let's not bring that video up again .....

SupaSaintZ28,

Dude ... a 1G AWD in good condition to being with ...with very few mods(Intake , Exhaust , Boost controller) runs low 13s around 100 MPH....I will agree with you that its not possible to beat a LS1 with those mods from a roll but from a stop the AWD has an Advantage on the street.

Are you telling me I cannot pull on an LS1 because I am AWD? ;)

Simple rule.......the car that has a higher trap speed wins from a roll.

And about LS1.com(actually any car kill stories forum) I hang out there because a majority of the people are cool ... but there's always(That goes for every car site DSMs included) a few guys that don't know anything and think their car is unbeatable....and then start saying stupid things. I've not gotten shit at LS1.com because I post my times. Let me post this story without posting times and let's see if someone talks $hit o.k?

Come on... Once you have a few mods into an AWD, you can screw up and still pull 0-60s in the 4s. Once you get to 3rd, the F-body might walk right by you, but its hard to lose off the line.

i am just saying that f-bodys can get awsome lunches aspecially automatics with stall converters! I am not saying that u cant pull on the Ls1 or Lt1 with your DSM. i got pulled by 91LaserT with his basicly stock Laser from 60-110 by a car ( i was creping on him after 105) but thats not the point. the point here is that a automatic F-body with a stall converter can get a pretty damn good launch also.

Sure you can....

The RWDs with drag suspension actually get better launches than us AWD folks.....I raced a mustang at the track once.......he ran 0.5 secs quicker than me at almost the same MPH 113.66 to my 112.16 ... he had a 1.59 60' to my 1.734 60' and was half a sec ahead of me at the 1/8th but did'nt gain anything after that.

You can get great launches with RWD but in street trim the AWD will get an Advantage at the start.

At the track on slicks its a different story altogether.

thanks

4npower Thanks for the welcome.

Mr. z28, the guy was recing we set it up before went out the the road, he gave up about 70 mph or so because I was so far ahead. we have since then race from a roll to, he's mine from about a 15 mph roll up to about 80phm then slowly starts walking away. I can live with that for now, until I get some real mods.

Peace Fathouse

i have it on my computer , i also have like 100+ more racing videos so get your ass over my house and ill show it to you. give me a call tomorrow on my cell around 11, i should be back from college by then, and u can comeover.
