OK so here is my problem, I have a 97 Eclipse with a 6 bolt.
(I'm using the 1g CAS, so yes, I can adjust the timing)
I need to adjust the timing so that it is at 8* BTDS.
How do I put the ECU in diagnostic mode to have the timing "stay put"?
Ive adjusted it without putting it in diagnostic mode but it is still not right.

I know you can do this with a scan tool but I do not have one.
If I ground the pink wire from the data link connector will it put it in diag mode?
Kinda like you do for the BISS adjustment.

TLDR:
How to set timing on a 2gb with a 1ga CAS.

Thanks.

Re: adjusting timing on a 97 - 99 DSM help

I think the only way to do it without a scan tool is with dsmlink. I wouldn't adjust that thing to much without something to check for knock to cause it's easy to start knocking when you play with the CAS.

Re: adjusting timing on a 97 - 99 DSM help

Ok so after a ton of searching with no real results, I figure that I do need a scan tool to do this.
But!!
After discussing this with a friend of mine, we figured that if I put the ECU in limp mode (unplug the AFM), the ECU should go to base timing. At this point I should be able to adjust the timing.
Will post results after I try this.

Re: adjusting timing on a 97 - 99 DSM help

Alright, so I disconnected the MAF after letting the car warm up for a few minutes.
Moved the 1g cam sensor till the timing was at 8*BTDC (from the angle I could see it, it was more like 5.5*BTDC)
Then reconnected the MAF sensor turned on the car and let it adjust a bit.
Runs great now! Idles just fine and drives nice!
