I would like some suggestions on where I should start on a car that has'nt been turned on in two years. Its a 91 GSX, I just bought it and I know to drain the tank. But where else other then the fluids do I need to hit?? Thanks, Aaron.:dunno:

Re: Where to start..car has'nt ran in 2 years

I'd make sure the car started after all fluid changes/ spark plugs, then do all the maintenance possible!

I hope you fogged the cylinders with oil before it was stored for two years.. First thing i i'd do is drop a cap ful of marvel mystery oil down each cylinder and rotate the engine a few times over.

He just bought the car, so he just has to hope that the person he got it from did that. :dunno:

After you get the fluids and plugs changed like mentioned before, I would definitely check around the car visually to see if there are any parts worn bad enough for your eye to catch it. And like mentioned, do any types of normal tune up procedures that you would usually do within that period.

Yea Im about a million percent sure he did'nt do anything but let it set. So dump some marvels down the cly? Yea I would just like to do any the things needed to to get it to fire. Any other things pop in to anyones head??

Do as Burnett suggested. Change the coolant, oil/filter, gear oil, spark plugs, etc. Pull the MPI fuse after you do all of that. This will disable the fuel from being pumped into the engine and allow you to crank it over several times before firing. You can also crank it by hand using the crank pulley if you're wanting to do it the "best" way.

Yea so pull the MPI fuse and crank by hand after letting that MMOil set for a little bit. What about the gas? Drop the tank? Thanks guys.

I've got a 92 AWD, and it sat since 2003 till this passed April, not cranked once. I parked it out of aggravation and desperation, and had given up on the car, so no I didn't do any prep work before I parked. Had some notions to just crush it.

I got it out this passed April, because I needed a car and this thing was the quickest way I could get one if I could get it running.

First thing I did was drop the tank, not just drain it, and clean it out by hand. I tried my best to use a couple bottles of rubbing alcohol to clean it (their's probably something better). I changed the oil and filter, spark plugs, wires, and I also poured oil down over the whole top of the head with the valve cover off, in hope of getting the top end at least a little coated with oil.

That's pretty much all I did preliminarily before starting it. After trying to start it, I went through a several month long troubleshooting episode trying to get it actually RUNNING, but everything worked out in the end after replacing the ECU.

I now drive the car daily. The motor is perfect, wish I could say the same for the rest of the drivetrain...

OK here is an update.
Well its a pretty nice car for 500 bucks. Well I towed it home with a tow strap, and by the wa before everyone says you dummy its awd. Well its not right now, I need a driveshaft and a t-case. Anyways, I get home and am looking around and find some wiring issues. The fuses they are connected to the positive battery terminal are kinda burnt up. Then it makes a clicking noise when I have the acc. ignition key set. The injectors seem to be firing with the car being all the way cranked(is that normal). Also I might have a bad IAC. Some cool guy decided hey i will just bypass everything and try to hard wire things without fuses. Anyways I am having to troubleshoot things and any ideas would be sweet. Thanks for your time!

Mod list.
1. boost gauge and narrowband a/f
2. rebuilt engine
3. 17'' rims
4. hacked up wire set up.

Ok heres what I did today. Changed out the plugs, 2 of the spark plug wires were on wrong(I have been finding newb stuff like that). Then this is resistance on the injector plugs when the ecu is hooked up and none when its not. My tps sensor is making like a clicking noise as well.
