I'm finishing the swap from 1.8 to 2.0 NT and everything seems to be hooked up but when I touch the positive lead to the terminal post it sparks massively. I know that this means there is a positive being grounded but where should I begin to look for that at? I'm going to try to find a wiring diagram for the starter and the altenator does anybody have any other suggestions?

That may not be correct because I'm not sure how it's grounded. If it is to the block or some other part of the motor and not the negative of the battery or body, then it's probably that part that is not grounded. Eg. If its grounded to the block, then the block is probably not grounded properly.

Okay but why would it not create a current after disconnecting the alternator. If the block is still improperly grounded it should still create a current from the battery to the ground. Am I wrong?

OK, first things first, that lead from the alternator shouldn't go through the negative side.
The alternator puts current in on the positive side, to charge the battery.

Secondly, if it sparks massively, there is a pretty large draw, and it's not neccessarily where you think it is. An old amp wire will spark you just as hard as a missing ground on the engine block.

Edit: Did you make sure everything was turned off before you hooked up the battery? Is the starter lead wire insulated?(The biggun, not the solenoid wire) Is there any random unhooked wires that could be touching something they're not supposed to? Have you double-checked your schematics? Is the feed wire coming from your alternator hooked to the fusible link going to the POSITIVE side of your battery?
