First off, let me say i have posted a couple times now on DSMtalk, and everytime someone gave great advice without snide comments......unlike the other DSM forum i used to frequent.....anyway. Thanks....I am new to the AWD side of DSM. I have had 2 GSTs though and feel in love with the cheap way to make the cars crazy fast. Anyway to the problem, I recently purchased a 92 TSi and this weekend was running the maintainence guantlet on all the fluids. The rear pinion seal is leaking so i willneed to get it replaced, but when the car was off the ground i could spin the rear driverside wheel. The front drivers side spins the same and both passenger side spin the opposite until pressure is applied to the tire then it spins the same way as the drivers side. But when i started the car and released the clutch all wheels spun the same way at the same speed then the front drivers side wheel began creeping along and a chattering sound was coming from what i believe was the transfer case???? I did some research but other had clunking or loud pop sounds i had none of that. Could my limited slip be going out? And if so how do i fix it properly? Any input would be appreciated .....thanks

Not a grinding, a chattering sound, also my transfer case has two drainplugs and the one closest to yoke was missing. But my transfer case had oil in it. Does this make sense....someone please answer....

Changed my transfercase out and the sound seems to have stopped. I just bought this car and it's seems the the guy I bought it from didn't torque down the transfercase drain plug very well and It came loose and all the oil leaked out on the way home from buying it. Just posting back so if some SEARCHES for chattering sound this may help them. Thanks for all the input everyone...............
