Hi! Im trying to get a 93 tsi ready for rally racing next season and im having trouble finding info on hydraulic handbrake intalls.. i only want the rear brakes to lock up when i pull the lever so where do i plumb it in? there are 2 lines running to the rear brakes and my handbrake has only one inlet and one outlet on it. so off the master im guessing?? but where???
Thanks!
Matt Mullin

Yes, it's cable operated. If you'd need a hydraulic hand brake, you should probably install a small master cylinder on the brake lever. You'd probably want to run separate lines and perhaps dedicated hand brake calipers; cause I don't think you could plumb into existing lines.

Also, if 1Gs use the same parking brake (drum in disc design) as 2Gs, better calipers are going to perform more evenly and precise than the drums would.

I see. But I don't think additional hydraulics or hydraulic pressure could be added to a stock caliper. For rally racing I think you'd have to make due with what you have have or go all out and do separate calipers etc.

OP, is this rallying or rallycross?

How are you going to lock up the rear brakes when the front tires are still trying to turn the driveshaft? Do you plan on having 1 wheel off the ground? :p The viscus gives a bit, but you're not going to "lock them up" per se.

^^ Good point. Unless he is trying to rally a FWD. Maybe he is mistaking hydraulic hand controls that changes the power split in WRC cars? :dunno: Those things are sweet, I got to check out a Soobie one year at NAIAS, those doods can split the proportion in rediculous incriments.

i have a kaaz center lsd so the vc is not affected under braking. and the e brake on a 93 is on the disk and not drums. thanks for the help but im fabricating a dual master cylinder handbrake so i can plumb one master cylinder into each rear wheel. ill let u know how it works out

STI and evo's stock can do that.. I've heard just one click up will have the center diff torque split all to the rear. Anyone confirm this?

I could very well be wrong as is often the case but after reading it doesn't sound like mattmullin is trying to spit power to the rear wheels It sounds like he is just trying to do an AWD e brake slide to get a little more rotation out of turns. Doing this won't kill your diff. You have to have the clutch in while the hand brake is up. Drifters use this method all the time. I could only imagine that the stock cable setup is not even close to being engineered to hold up to this kind of driving.

Major fail in this thread fro grammar. I know you can do it and they make a setup for it as well. It is a hydraulic ebrake, Shep uses it to stage his car and drifters use it for their cars all the time. Rally cars also.
