I ask this question as I have been thinking about working on my intake more and wanted to add a 1g throttle body but figured if the 1g intake manifold is larger stock I might want to think about picking one up and putting that on along with the 1g TB. Now I know that the intake ports on the head will have to be port matched but aside from that will the 1g intake manifold fit and work perfectly as far as mounting is concerned? Is the power increase worth it if I can pick these pieces up at a junk yard? I have a friend who is a mechanic and has already said he will help me work with these pieces and get them on. I just want to see what you guys have to say as I can't get an exact answer from sites online. Also how much is throttle response affected with these pieces? Thanx

I know someone out there knows.

yes, it is a direct bolt on. they are the same bolt pattern, but you will have to port the head to match, otherwise, it wont be much gain. its risky to port the head with it on the car, and also a pain it the ass. probably not worth it. It might me easier and safer to just do the TB upgrade and leave the intake mani alone (except porting to match the TB).
you will have a problem with the coil pack and ignition assembly mounting on the 1g intake mani because they are differen locations. you might want to use a 1g coil pack and plug wires to make life easier.
i dont have any numbers to give you on increase in power, but i am in process of doing a full 1g head swap on my 2g and cansend you any pics of differences in the 2 setups if you want.
good luck!

The 1G intake manifold and TB are much larger then the 2G's. Putting the 1G TB on a 2G intake mani. IMO isn't the best thing to do, especially if you aren't going to port match them. And, if you are going to go through that trouble just to match the TB's, your intake/head ports are still much smaller, so the benefit would be small, if any.

You'd be much better off taking the head off, port matching the intake mani. w/ it, and then slapping on the throttle body. There is a "How-to" in the VFAQ's about it, I have it saved at home - I'll post it later.

I guess you guys didn't notice this in my original post:

"Now I know that the intake ports on the head will have to be port matched but aside from that will the 1g intake manifold fit and work perfectly as far as mounting is concerned?"

I know that the ports will have to matched, but I was just trying to see if everything matched up and if it would be worth the effort. Hey for TurboJosh, how long will it be before you are done? I was actually talking to a friend of mine last night about swapping the entire head intake and TB. He has a shop and could do it, with the only problem being having a machinist port the head. Other than that he has the knowledge to do it all. Is your head project going to be done anytime soon? If it is I would love to hear about the difference it made for you and what exactly in the head you changed out aside from porting.

i should be done in the next week. im bolting the head down tomorrow. i got the head, mani, and TB for $220. i had the head cleaned, decked, new valves w/ 3 angle grinds, and exhaust side gasket matched for $170. all in all, i got a hell of a good deal.
i wouldnt have the intake side ported unless you are really looking for major power in the future. with a 16g, a 1g head is already a huge upgrade - and you dont want to "overflow" the capacity of the turbo - which you will do on a 16g.
just find a good deal on an unwarped head and spend some money having it worked a little.
its not too hard to do, but there are a lot of "little" parts that you will have to get from mitsubishi - most of which will be special orders which is why mine is taking so long.
i will let you know when its done.

Next summer I will either have a Mf1 Lev3 if the reviews turn out nice or a FP green, so I would think the best flow would be to port it. Also I am getting an ported Evo Exhman with a high temp heat coating on it, so exhaust porting would be nice to make sure it matches up. How long total did it take you? I would love to see your reaction to the change once you get it on there.

Okay I have a few questions for you then. Do you have any pictures? How did you make this piece?

I also notice that you have injectors and a fuel pump but have no idea what their flow capabilities are. WTF? :)

I don't have any pics yet...I even don't know to post THEM!!! JAJA... well, I just used a 3" tube(don't know what kind of metal it is) and used stuck but ported/overzised stock runners and used the stock throtlebody mount but matched it to the 3" tube...it's a very easy thing to do and you can feel the diference!!!
