Well, i'm going to order a new head gasket and some ARP head studs but i'm not sure which gasket to go with... extreme PSI recommended I use the 85.5mm but my motor is bored .20 over and i've seen a few places say I should go with 86mm for .20 bore.... anyone know for sure?? I'm using the 9:1 wiseco pistons if it makes a difference.

Have you considered the timing to be an issue? The timing could have skipped a tooth or more while you were on it and that could have caused the car to run crappy. Before you take your engine apart, make sure you check your timing to see if it's dead on.

Don't know if I mentioned it but the timing is off by ONE tooth... I checked it while I was doing the compression check but because the car was acting really funny when everythign went down i'm going to play it safe and pull the head (got a new Cometic HG and ARP head studs) and put the new studs on and change the HG (if needed which is more than likely) and then redo the timing... it's possible I could have bent valves but I won't know until the head comes off.

I have alot of friends who think they know alot about cars (i'm no mechanic myself) but I solve problems before I make the issue worse... some people keep telling me "Just fuckin' run it's probably fine!" but this is not my DD I have plenty of time to make this car reliable and fun and that's my goal.

You would want the 85.5
Thanks, I went with that one. :D

Mishimoto FTW! If you plan on upgrading hoses/rad, I would just go with them.

I also heard from a few friends that you can E-mail them, get something like a sponsorship, and get deals on parts.
Not sure if they will want to sponsor me for just a radiator and 2 hoses lol but hell if they wanted to i'd be game...

I flushed the radiator I have inthe car and it came out clean so I did it a second time and again everything was nice... it's not a really old one but it's an OEM one... may use it for a while since it seems to be fine but i'm planning to get a new radiator. If I can get the car running soon it will use the one I have but i'm working double shifts right now to get the money to make this thing done yesterday.... tried to pull the head today and broke my favorite socket wrench and found out my crank pulley is like broken on the sides... kinda hard to explain but i'm just gonna get a new one... should I stick with OEM or is an aftermarket stock or lightened crank pulley a good idea... not sure if it needs to have a harmonic balancer on this engine.

Stock is the best way to go. I have heard of aftermarket destroying the crank. I just sold a good stock one for 20.

Some people have claimed to use an aftermarket crank pulley with no issues, but it's not recommended. Don't do it.
That's what I figured... I know for the #S we have a stock size and underdrive aftermarket ones and noone really has a definitive answer to which should be used except stock is the safe way to go.

I'm gonna keep my eye out...20 seems really cheap is that what they go for?!

I've been meaning to hit up some junkyards to find some splash guards and get a ton of clips for things and stupid small stuff but the ones by me never seem to have DSMs let alone turbo ones....

Idk lol, its a part out on my side so I just am trying to get rid of everything I have lol.

So, I got the head off today and the HG is clearly destroyed and it looks like it was one of those paper ones too :-/

Pistons look perfect and cylinder walls look great too however the head has scarring right next to the valves on the side where the HG blew. :(

I think that alone may make me have to use another head... fortunately I have a spare... I don't really know if the valves are bent but I think they are... it was getting dark so I just put everything away after the pics.

So, even though th head is scarred in that one spot where the HG blew do the valves look bent to anyone... I spun both cams by themselves several times... the exhaust side (non CAS side) spun very easily and the exhaust side (CAS side) took a little more effort.

Other than that they would stick out, close in with a small gap, and as the others would pop out then those 2 would be completely in with not gap and then it would restart the cycle... I don't know what they're supposed to look like....

I have this spare head that I guess I HAVE to swap everything over too... also can anyone confirm by the pictures if the pistons really are the Wisecos they're supposed to be? Not sure if they're supposed to say anything or look different.

Those are Wisecos. Looks like you had detonation/knock issues. You might be able to have that head shaved enough to save it, does'nt look like its been shaved before. That head gasket is a cheapo Fel Pro piece of junk, replace it with a factory part this time.

You think? I can't imagine i'd see anything crazy considering what this actually has which is stock injectors, 14b at 12psi, and basically it's cammed and stroked to 2.1.... I guess I should grab a datalogger...

I have a head that's perfectly fine but completely bare so i'm getting new VSS, new valves and valve guides, and probably new retainers... i'm planning to reuse the springs and everything else since they should be fine...

I'm thinking my valves are fine but i've never rebuilt a head so I honestly don't even know how to tell I guess until I tear it apart lol. I've replaced a HG on a 4g63 and once before and on several 6g72s but this is alot more involved and much more technical.

SO, if there's ANYONE in near South Jersey that wants to stop by and help show me how to take my head apart without it exploding let me know!

Other than that I guess i'm pretty much stuck for now...
