I only have $16k into mine and that's including the price of the car... I can't see spending another 50k just to go 1sec faster..

I'm 100% sure he was over exaggerating, but I get his point, I think more or less he's just saying that he's spent a lot and doesn't have the flow left to be dropping major coin. (However something like putting a sump on your tank is pretty basic and the benefits are major..) However I do believe he had this car up for sale for like $35-40K? So maybe he actually thinks there is that much into the car? :dunno:

Naturally those of us who have been where he's going or who are on the same path find such a number a bit ludicrous. I have well under $20K in mine and I dare someone to find a better part I don't have. Lets just chalk it up to time passing banter.

Interestingly enough I see that lilred's build is almost identical to this one yet some how $40K less and actually finished lol. Hmmmm...

Been where I'm going. lol. I built my 10.60's 1G probably before you even knew what a DSM. I hate pissing contests but get your story straight.

I've got reciepts that add up to $48,000 just in major parts. Not including misc other small parts. Thats not including the price of the vehicle itself either. Don't sit there and tell me what I have in my car. I've only listed certain things. There are things done to the motor and chassis that nodody will ever know about unless they were to buy the car. Plus theres the price of fabrications and various other odds and ends I was'nt able to do myself. I just spent $3,000 on the car a few months ago and it was not on anything major. Lines, new OEM replacement parts, and a bunch of other shit I can't think of off the top of my head.
Thats all well and good that you can build a car for "less". This is not my first DSM build. I've been tinkering with them since before there was a DSM scene. To be quite honest this is my first sub 10 second Talon. My last 1G was a 10.6 car all day long. I'll list just a few things and you do the math
*Tilton carbon/carbon twin disc (ordering this friday) $4K
*Dogbox $6K
*Haltech E11v2 $1,500
*Motor (Longblock) over $13,500
*Weldon 2345A $1,300
*DSS axles fr/Rr $2,500
*Hogan int. manifold $1,400
*Shearer top mount $1,500
*Garrett GT4202 $1,200
*Charge piping & Intercooler $1,300
Those are just some random parts from the top of my head.

I hope you weren't talking to me in this post because you'd be sadly mistaken, I'm glad you don't want to have a pissing match because I guarantee you my peen is bigger. ;)

I remember a lot about the car before you bought it and even so, your price run down is high. That's all I was saying. You don't have anything in your build I don't or that lil red doesn't, definitely not to the tune of $40-50,000. If you do, then I have an ice castle in Dubai I want to sell you. :p If you're simply telling us you bought everything for that car at the highest dollar amount possible and didn't look for a single deal and blindly had people filling out a blank check then it makes sense. We've done all the trick stuff in the book and it didn't amount anywhere close to that price tag.

So no, no bashing here, just another party who's got all you got plus some and wonders how in the hell you raked up such a high bill. No need to be so sensitive, jeez! :D

Maybe he bought all the parts at retail cost? I used to be that way. I always wanted new and never wanted second hand stuff. 18k later and I still only had a "quick" car. The same could have been had for 2/3s less cost, but I was stubborn and wanted that satisfaction of opening up a newly sealed from factory part.

My lesson was learned, next time around I will be hording the fs section looking for all you guys parting their cars out. I know by me parting my car out that there are some people out there that take care of their parts.

My receipts only add up to $11k and all my parts were factory sealed quality parts. What are you guys buying that's so expensive?

You do realize there will always be someone smarter, stronger, better, faster, etc than you are, right? You are not the end-all, beat-all. No one is. And on a related note, is your "super fast race car" even together yet?

With that said, Jesus Christ. Why does every thread turn into a pissing match? This is why people don't post up serious build threads on DSMTalk anymore, because someone who hasn't even accomplished as much as the OP, will always try to bash and start a huge 5 page long argument trying to tell the OP what to do.

Everyone whose trying to nit-pick needs to STFU and let the OP get back to posting his pics and information of his build. You've made your point, now move the hell on. You just come off as an arrogant douche if you sit here for four pages saying how much better you are, and how you can build this, or this price, and it be this fast. Have some damn respect.

OP. Continue posting please, and ignore the person(s) trying to start shit. Don't let a skeezy douche run you off.

Your car is a POS, you have no place in this thread sir.. Its only for people who have spent over $60K.. K_thx bye. ;) (J/K J/K) That shows you about how worth it it was for you to write out that essay no one is going to read.

Again, you must be far to remedial too comprehend that no one is bashing the OP. We simply wondered where he came up with his price, a price he chose to throw out there... (We never asked and now that he mentioned it, we are simply curious) I don't see the issue. You got 4 people with similar builds to the OP with $40-55K price differences. Its not a slight difference, nor is it a big deal. It was dropped until you brought it back up.

I don't see how its a crime that we politely asked the OP where his figures came from. You have no idea what goes into builds like this in the first place so I am sure you'd have no idea on earth as to why we were puzzled to begin with. The OP is still building a badass car, nothing is changing that, so don't come in here trying to be the "white knight" or voice of reason. You just make yourself useful and take your ass to that junkyard and find us some mud flaps. :tree:

BTW, anyone with half a brain knows that eventually you CAN be the smartest/fastest, etc etc etc. Someone has to be on top, someone is number 1, that is just a fact. I always find it quite pathetic when people post that stupid ass wise tail that holds about as much water as a cheese cloth strainer.

BTW my 496 stroked 72 RS/Z28 Camaro is finished or were you talking about one of my other projects? You silly goose, don't let your ignorance get the best of you because just like proven that someone can be the smartest... There has to be a dumbest.. :p

^^^ Now THAT is a supreme level of douchebaggery. (I'm proud, although you can't say you didn't ask for it) No harm no foul, I'm 100% sure we all wish the OP the best. No one has ever posted a buidl thread without getting questioned about something mentioned, dunno wh this ones any different. It makes us no less interested in the build and we still look for updates.

Don't take the internet so seriously.

Not for nothing,I hate to interupt this little dispute you have going with youself but I have over $48,000 worth reciepts. Just for parts. You have no idea what I have done to my motor or the man hours that have been invested. I'm not going to get envolved in a "My dicks bigger" argument with you. I know what I've spent to build the car. There are things done to the motor that no one will ever know about fully unless they were to buy the car from me.
That being said, now out comes my other half. The nasty SOB thats got 20 plus years under his belt at a high volume race/machine shop, assisted in building 3 different titling takin' door slammers, and has more wally's on his shelf that you could ever hope to have. I'm generaly a nice guy. But when ignorant people try to tell me what I have done to my own car.....that just pisses me off.
This is exactly why I stopped going on DSM sites for so long. I'm on other domestic sites all the time. When I'm posting a picture of my El Camino or talking about my last SS'er campiagn I don't have to worry about kids coming in there and starting shit. Theres a certain level of comradery that you just don't see in the import or DSM community.
Theres so much on my mind right now that I want to say. However I think I've wasted enough of my time on the subject. When the car is done next week I'll sumbit a full catalog of reciepts and pictures. Would'nt want to make anyone think I'm just throwing numbers out there. No,no,no,not at all. Not like I have'nt drained any of my savings accounts to build the car. Not like I don't know what I've spent on my own car, right?

And for the guy that mentioned the price being too high for only another second....yeah,look at the listing for Showdown's 8 sec 1G. They want $60K for the car and they claim to have over $150K invested in the car. Sure,we're talking about a car that makes an additional 200whp,and can potentially clear the quarter mile in under 8 seconds. But still, what I've invested in mine is nothing to sneeze at. I mean c'mon. Ivey wanted $26,000 for the car when it was an 800whp 9.4 car. Since than the car has had a major overhaul. Not too much of the previous build still exists. Some interior stuff, thats about it. As far as the drivetrain and powertrain goes.....nothing is the same. Here, add up these couple of items and tell me you can do the same for $20,000 as you stated.

*Shep dogbox / PPG gearset................... $6,000
*motor - .............................................$9,800
*Hogan manifold................................... $1,400
*Shearer top mount.............................. $1,500
*Weldon 2345A pump.............................$1,300 w/filter
*Haltech E11v2.....................................$1,500
*Garrett GT4202....................................$1,100

Theres just a couple of things, and it's already over $20K. Whatta' you think your the only one that build a fast junkyard parts car. Lets not go there. I took a wally a few years ago with a $300 F-body that I pulled from the boneyard. Total invested with time in was under $3,000 and the car went 10.30's on the motor/9.90's on the trans brake and the bottle. I know just as well as anyone that theres always someone who knows more and has deeper pockets. But I know my share and I have the means to get it done.

No harm,no foul. I'm not the type to hold a grudge. But you'll never see me with my tail between my legs either. Lets just chalk it up to common internet BS.

I have to say though,TSimage. You have a very high opinion of yourself, huh. It's funny because you have absolutely no idea who I am,what I do,or what I've accomplished. Did you think the avatar was just for decoration? No. Those are from hard work, and lots of it. You have no clue,so we'll just leave it at that. Because if you want me to whip it out I promise you that you'll end up being the one with a soft little flap of skin between your legs.

I really don't think you want your own thread closed. Let's cut the personal direct attacks! Everyone understand?

I would like to say that you contradicted yourself:

Now I know the price difference in the turbo is slight, but the engine is large. The total amount of money spent does not equal a faster/better done car. We all know this. Just because Person A spent $5,000 on their DSM doesn't mean Person B who spent $3,00 can't be just as fast or as well put together. Again, we all know amount of money spent != how well a car is put together or how fast it is, right? ;)

Hahaha, you think I have'nt built fast cars for little to no money at all. I built my 93' TSi nearly 9 yrs. ago with under $8,000 and the car went 10.60's at over 135mph. I'm from the Bronx dude. I know what it's like to build a car on a budget. But when I got my settlement from my accident I splurged. I don't have to explain a damn thing to anyone. I suffered and still do from that accident. I was out of work for 3 years and did'nt walk for almost 8 months.

And the motor....theres things done to the motor that half the guys in here would'nt even think of doing. So what,I spent a lot of dough on the build. Especially since I DO NOT PAY FOR MACHINING. However,I don't get free shit from every shop in the country. And a lot of the work done to the shortblock was NOT done in-house. We don't do casidiam coating. Which I have on the wrist pins. We also dont do thermal coatings, which I have in various parts in the motor (Swaintech). I've also got a few trick things done to the oil system to prevent premature oil pump failure, and the cooling system. All of which nobody but myself and a few other people know about. Those numbers are as honest as they can be. All I now is I set aside $60K in a savings acount strctly for the Talon. After building the car I had enough to by a new trailer, and a new Toro 50" zero-turn mower. Other than that every dime has gone into the car. Every time I need a nut, bolt, clamp,or whatever it comes out of the "Talon account". So combined with the stack of reciepts I have in my safe I'd say I know exactly what I've spent on this car. As a matter of fact the car just went to my buddy's chassis shop. He's removing the factory rad support and replacing it with a CM rad support and cross member. What do you think thats going to cost? $25 bucks? No! He's going to give me a good price on it,but he's gotta' eat too.
Thats just the way I am. I know what it's like to slave away for 15hrs. a day. 5-6-7 days a week. So when someone does good work for me,I don't mind paying what they ask. Very rarely will I haggle over a price. Only if it's extremely high. I'd rather pay to have great work done, than get a deal and recieve just good or ok work.
