I know everyone says to ditch the amp and get new speakers.. I don't want to do that. I don't care too much about the music in the car other than I'd like it to come out of all speakers. I don't need it to shake the neighborhood, I just want stock sound like with stock deck.. That being said...

I bought a wiring harness and I have a Jensen HU. I hooked up the wiring harness fine, and the HU plays, but nothing out of the front speakers. After some searching, I found out I need this harness:

So, I bought that. I did not use the square harness since I already hooked up a harness. I'm trying to hook up that other piece that has the four RCAs and teh remote line.

I plugged it in, and I tried every combo I could think of. My HU has four pre-outs, twi in back, two in front. If I hook up the remote line, the speakers up front work, but everythign is really weak and static - also the car's interior lights flicker and dim, so I know something is wrong.

Can anyone tell me exactly how I should be hooking this up to get sound out of all speakers like the stock HU??

I know almost nothing about car audio - any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks

The square harness should only have 3 wires connected to it black, red and yellow. Your 4 RCA plugs can be hooked up any way you would like and all your speakers should still have sound it will only affect the balance and fade controls if you have them mixed up. The blue remote wire make sure you have it hooked to your remote out on the back of the HU. Some after market HU's have two blue wires one solid blue for turning on accessories and one blue with a white stripe to power the antenna. If you hook it up to the antenna wire the amp will only turn on when the source is set to radio. Some things things to check are is your stereo faded all the way to the front or back? Or balance all the way to the left or right? If you can turn the internal amp on your HU off do so since you won't be using it. Did your stereo work fine before the aftermarket HU install?

After reading my post the ground on back of the head unit should get grounded to the body of the car. If i remember right our cars don't have a stereo ground wire in the factory harness.

Ok, thanks for help. Yes, the fade is set to the middle.. When I was testing I had it front biased because the front speakers are the ones that don't work.

The only time I got sound out of front and rear speakers is when I had the blue amp line hooked up - but the sound was very quiet and staticky, and that's when the interior lights were dimming and flickering..

When I removed the stock HU yes - all speakers worked perfect. And I did ground to the body.. This one has me stumped..

Maybe I should take some pics of the wiring and see if that would be helpful..

I dont know much about the specs for the stock amp but maybe the voltage on the pre amp outputs on your HU is too much or too little for the factory amp.

It sounds like you have it hooked up right but a picture couldnt hurt.

Hmmm, my 2G has a Ground Wire in the Stock harness, which after a Wiring Harness is installed, an open ground wire to connect to the Head Unit Ground Connection.

If you have a hayne's I believe it says in there which wires are what for the stereo.

Picture/proof/diagram of said ground wire in the factory stereo harness or your lying. Just because the harness adapter you got from walmart/best buy has a ground wire doesn't mean it actually is connected to a ground that doesn't exist in the factory stereo harness.

Im not an audio tech..

But I did read that the dash tweeters (which I assume you're talking about? or you do you mean door speakers) are powered by the amp. So you have to harness out after the amp, and not pre-amp.
I really have no clue what you are trying to say here. :dunno:

Nothing up front will work.. So I guess both door and tweeters.. No sound at all wehn turning the fader completely to the front.

If you put the stock radio back in does it STILL work perfectly?

If so you know the problem is with the harness or your new HU. You could have been unlucky and gotten a bad HU or harness. You could always run your own speaker wires to get around this problem like alot of people do. Also like I said the voltage for the pre amp outputs on the back of your HU might be to high for the factory amp which could cause issues.

Any chance of taking those pictures. A couple extra sets of eyes might see something you are missing.
