That looks like you have alot more space in there now. I would still wrap or ceramic coat it though but that's me. I know how you are with the way things look on your car so I'm sure it will look perfect when it's done.

I'll do something with it. I'm tight on funds so maybe I'll just have the top coated, not sure yet.
I'm going to have to bring it to a friends house or ship it to my fabricator so they can weld it. I still have no idea how to setup my back purge yet and my welds won't look as good as theirs.

I'll measure the piece I cut off and let you know exactly how much was cut off so you can copy me.

If you ceramic coat it, do they coat the vband housing as well or no?

I have been looking into ceramic coating lately and from what I've found they will mask off anything you don't want coated.

That I don't know. I was going to ask Swain tech about that when I got ready to send my manifold, o2 and BEP housing to get coated. I don't know if it could cause any issues with them sealing properly. Maybe someone with some first hand experience will chime in and school us on this subject.

I finally got everything tightened up, and I notice now that its actually touching the alternator. Will it arc through the heatwrap? Or should I wrap more around that area to make it thicker in that spot next to the alternator?

Modify it so it does NOT touch the alternator. That doesn't sound good.
I made some progress today.
Cut the 90* and tacked in my flex.

Tacked on the vband.

It hit the oil filter so I just turned it forward, no problem.

So if you buy a 120* degree pipe, make sure you cut off 7" inches on it. Then it should clear the alternator.
I ended up cutting a few inches off the other end and the 90* so the downpipe doesn't hang down too low. More pics to come as I progress. I need to get another vband clamp/flange still.

The vband wont warp in the oven... why did you buy a welder if you are just gonna send it off elsewhere to be welded? Weld that thing!
lol true. I need more practice and today I figured out how to back purge so I may try it.
What kind of alternator are you running? Are the saturn alternators any skinnier? Or maybe I can just grind away some surface material on mine...
OEM alternator from autozone.

Backpurging is important, but for what you are doing here it's not needed really. Sure the welds will look better if you backpurge but your welds aren't going to look great to begin with.

Here is mine before it got F'd up last night.
I'm going to order parts to make another one, while I'm at it, if anyone is interested I'll order 2 of everything, tack it together and have it professionally welded and then I'll sell one if anyone needs it.
If anyone is interested pm me. It will look just like the ones in the picture I have. The rest of the downpipe is up to you.
