Hey, so I currently bought a 1997 eclipse 4.0L dohc, the base coupe with basically no options. I have a crack in the front bumper that maaco and the local body shops wanted around 400/500 to replace. so being on a pretty tight budget plus looking forward to getting into the dsm world i was looking at replacing it my self. i'm new to cars in general though so looking for any advice on how to replace and paint a new one. i was looking at replacing it with this ( http://www.iautobodyparts.com/mi1000240-1996-mitsubishi-eclipse-front_bumper_cover-details.html ) for now, or a new after market better looking one if i can find one cheap thats not to low as i hate bottoming it out and scraping the bottom of it on the driveways around here.

so if anyone has any useful advice or directions on how i can go about this including painting it would be sweet. also if anyone lives around sterling heights mi who might be willing to help for a few bucks that would be sweet. thanks guys.

attachments are pics of the damage...

BTW... you know that's NOT the 97 front bumper right?

Oh sweet you got the 4.0L version. Is that also the 3 wheel drive one?:p

Since your replacing the bumper anyway, look into the 2GB conversion. Getting a bumper and headlights that fit 97-99. I usually don't advocate EBay for parts but you can get a great fitting front bumper cover and headlights pretty cheap on there.

He is on a budget and wants to get more into DSM's.... I say zip tie it, and drive your heart out. Save money on gas for that 4.0L! Or just find a a white one in a junk yard. A new bumper and all the supplys needed to repaint it for your first time will cost you about 400-500 dollars anywho.

yea sry its a 96... dont know how i got that mixed.
yeah thanks for all the advice was way quicker then i expected...

You can get a new one painted to match on ebay for like 250. Buy a 97-99 one
Those paint matched body parts are never the same color. I learned that the hard way. I would suggest the 2GB conversion or just repair it and throw that money into the engine. IMO its better to have an ugly & good running car than a broken & pretty one. Good luck!
