Just bought my DSM, and replaced the clutch with an ACT 2600, 6-puck sprung center. I want a streetable car, but am really excited to make some horsepower and 1/4 mile times that are worth bragging about :) I am aware that there are plenty of supporting mods I need to do before I start talking about bigger turbos, more boost, etc. I'm planning on doing some mods in stages, what do you think about me upgrading the fuel pump, and fuel lines to accommodate more fuel, a GM MAF with translator, DSM Link, and larger injectors for a good start? I figure that will take care of any fuel/air and tuning issues for future upgrades. Only question I have about all of that, is there such thing as going too big on fuel lines, pumps, and injectors, or is it safe to plan ahead with these things and go big?

Re: supporting mods from bone stock? Am I on the right track?

I think your making a smart move, I bought by car witha b16g but no fuel mods, and no link. Probabaly make link your first purchace, then go with the fuel system and an mbc. I havnt really heard of anyone doing bigger lines. If you go injectors first you will run rich. As long as you have link i am pretty sure that you can accomodate any injector size. I wouldnt really worry about the gm maf yet. Maybe after the injectors and or fuel pump a nice intake tube and filter.

What are your overall goals for this car? 300 WHP or 700 WHP.

Re: supporting mods from bone stock? Am I on the right track?

For any upgraded fuel pump, you need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The Aeromotive and FueLab kits are good bets.

I'd recommend a Walbro 255lph HP pump.

You will want to rewire your fuel pump as well. http://www.raktron.com/fuel/rewire1.html

If you decide to use a GM MAF, if you also go with ECMLink v3 (the Lite version should work for you), you can buy a cable that directly connects it to the ECU, no MAF Translator needed.

Any size injector will work if you use ECMLink. I'd recommend at least 850cc, because those aren't much more expensive than 650s or 750s.

Make sure you have an EPROM ECU if you go with Link. If not, you can get your ECU converted to EPROM.

Re: supporting mods from bone stock? Am I on the right track?

Thank you for your input, unfortunately, I may sound really dumb for this but, I don't know what you mean when you say to go fuel system, then an mbc, is that manual boost controller? I'm just guessing :) as for the GM MAF, the reason I was goof to do that is because from what I read, my ECU needs socket work done before I can hook up the link, but then they ask beforehand what type of MAF is being used, I just don't want to have issues later if that's the case. And about upgrading fuel lines, I am interested because it's fairly affordable and I have read on vfaq and other sites that after a certain point, no matter what fuel pump, or injectors you have, the stock lines can only accommodate a set volume and pressure, which may not be enough and cause lean conditions which I definately don't want.

New fuel lines aren't necessary unless your current ones are leaking, or you are going for over 500hp.

Re: supporting mods from bone stock? Am I on the right track?

I have a 2g spyder

Who's your Daddy?

You dont have to go gauge crazy but they are not bad to have. Boost wideband and oil pressure is a great start. Our car has a water temp gauge and if your are tuning with a wideband, egt is not as important.

You can run a MBC with just a boost gauge if your looking for just a little extra go power. 14-15 psi and you will not hit fuel cut.

You are highjacking the thread tandrop. Make your own thread to ask questions you cannot find the answer to by searching, and looking at the "Rules and FAQ" link.

A good fun set up would be a decent t3/t4 set up of your choice. Ecm link v3 using a 3 in gm maf, 1000cc injectors, mbc, front mount, good free flowing exhaust. A port and polish on the head with some good valve springs and some 272 or 280 cams, and a rewired 255 pump with atleast a wide band set up and a decent boost gauge. Run about 14 psi in town and crank her on up to 28 psi at the track and have fun. My estimates, and im no pro and im sure my butt dyno is off but that should put you around 450 horse. If you do your home work and most of the work yourself it should only cost like 2500-3000 at the high end to do all this. And just for the record in my opinion adjustable cam gears are junk. hope this helps. PS a tune will completely make the car, without a tune you have a built paper weight bound to cause problems.

Glad this is your opinion.
272's or 280's would not really be worth it for what he is going for. Maybe 264/272.

I run 272s with my E316g and it rips. Its personal choice really and if he has a decent t3/t4 set up why would they be bad? I love the lope and the top end power and I havent noticed any loss in drivability. Also he is talking about going big now so he wont spend money later; so wouldnt it be intelligent to purchase 272s or 280s if he plans on running a big turbo later rather than dump 400 now and 400 later? you can argue back and forth and be an asshole all you want. I gave a bit of advice that seemed to be along the lines of what the OP wants. So eat it if it wont work for you. :)
