Kinda depends on what is wrong with the engine. I would start off with repairing it if at all possible. If your going to swap it out with a standard 7-bolt which a friend of mine just did over this winter, you are probly looking at about $1200ish range. He did all the work himself. Bought a rebuild short block and went from there. His had a hole in the block. I dont know all of what he replaced but its basically new from what he told me.

Im guessing if the OP is asking this he isnt really planning on doing the work himself.
Agreed. This will vary greatly. Use the search button and either figure out if you are up to tackling it yourself, or if you will plan to have a shop do it.

If you do it yourself, source the motor or have that one rebuilt. A 6bolt swap into a 2g is not just drop in and go.

If you do not do it yourself, start calling shops to get quotes.

This has been talked about more than Michael Jackson.

yes i do have tools they're my dads, just to put this out there im 18 and i want to do this and my father would help me but he said hes not going to pay for anything, for my first car, my dad bought a truck in good shape but just with a bad engine (just like the gsx im looking at) so we took out the engine and found one online, so im just trying to see how much it will cost me

You won't get that answer here. Because what it would cost me for example is far different from what it will cost you. To "fix up the whole car," who knows. Might as well say I wanna buy a chicken farm and fix up the place. How much will it cost.

We are not psychic.

Will you get a definite answer which is not between 1$ and 10,000$?

I want a chicken farm :D
How much will it cost to fix it?

Dude you need to find out why the engine stopped working out of nowhere maybe it's a simple fix. As for how much it will cost, go to Craigslist, I sold a complete 6 bolt for $600.

Also I'm surprised rule 7 hasn't been mentioned.

Well it wont cost a lot if u do it urself. First off u will have to buy the 4g63T engine block which is only in the turbo Eclipse and Talon and a few other Mitsubishi's The turbo Talon 1990-98, Plymouths 90-93, Eclipse 90-99
Galants from 89-92, They are also in certain Evo up till 06.
Someone please correct me on the years if I am wrong
I would check on craigslist or ur local junk yards like pick n pull
If u get the engine and it works u could jst drop it in for a couple hundreds, but if its older u might want to put on some new seals to make sure it maintains oil pressure which the seals would cost u a little more which at times u will be like this :chair: good luck:p

Please, can you rea read rule #7, its hard to follow your...post. ^

The EVO's would work if its like a early to mid 90's (I II or III). But thats it! Unless the kid wants to do a full 6 bolt swap, he needs to find a used or JDM motor for his year car, 95-96 eclipse or talon motor is the cheapest and easiest for him to put in. Period.

My 98 GST swap cost me almost 3k, for labor, motor, and all other parts needed when its all apart and you find the broken stuff. So count on at least that, even for a do it your selfer, and a first time DSMer.
