Good news! Found a set of shifter cables and shifter base from a 92 awd turbo ( shouldnt be a problem if i have an ESI?), for 60$.
Nope those will work just fine. Make sure it comes with the bracket that attaches the cables to the transmission.

My friend says if the cables/shifter would be the problem the gears would still go in but would just need more or less long of a path to get there ( depending if the cables are too short or too long ). He says they wouldn't grind at high rpm's for that.
This would be true, but our shifter has bump stops to prevent it from over reaching/throwing.

Sometimes my gears wont go in fully ( feels like something is stopping them, when it happens i go to neutral, clutch again and it goes in with a bit more ease ). My 1st gear tends to do this when i'm stopped at a slight uphill, but double-clutching usually helps.

The worst is getting from first to second. I shift to 2nd at +/- 2500rpm because above that almost insures a horrible grinding sound. Even at low rpm's there is a chance of grind, but it is greatly reduced if i put her into 2nd very slowly ( which pisses people off behind me anytime i take a full stop ).
That sounds more like a disengagement or syncro issue.
