Came across a 91 Talon awd today. 130K, 5 spd. New turbo installed, guages too, short shifter. Owner said it had a 23 spline put in etc etc. Needs brakes, ISC, blower motor doesnt work, sunroof leaks a tad, hole in gas tank on the top. also has some rust on drivers side, not anything on the pass. side.
Its the black and silver one. She def goes, pulls hard but with little brakes i didnt get on her to bad.

I havent had a Talon or Eclipse for 6-7 years so Ive been outa the loop and have forgotten a few things. Just want to know if anyone has any input on this $1500 Talon. Buy it or no??

thanks all

Yeah, I'd have to agree, Though I'm sure you can work with the guy & bring it down some. See how bad the gas tank is, if it only needs a slight patch sure, if it needs a new tank though, factor in that cost on the sale, save yourself some money.

I personally like to stay away from modded cars unless there is very little wrong with them. Who knows what other kinds of issues the car has that you don't know about. Sure 1500 is cheap, but who knows how much you will have to spend getting it to be reliable. For how cheap these cars are, I would rather just spend another 1000-2000 for a clean DSM.

It also comes down to how much time you are willing to put into the car and what you intend to use it for.

well got it for $1200. Its going to get the brakes done, the idle fixed, the blower motor fixed and whatever else it needs. Im thinking timing belt also......... just in case.
he said there was an extra hood and other parts. Im thinking Im going to be giving some stuff away for FREE!!!

That's not terrible. It's tough to find these cars now without at least one of the standard flaws. The few and far between cars that are still in good shape are either being held onto or simply aren't being driven. For having only "a little bit of rust", in his area, that could be a somewhat of a rarity. The fuel tank may be patch-able. Quality timing belt and associated parts aren't cheap, but don't cheap out. Don't forget to replace the belt or eliminate the balance shaft while you are in there.

Welcome back to the DSM world :)
From what you wrote, I think you got a good deal. Besides the repairs you mentioned you should also do timing belt kit and all fluids unless the owner specifically stated that they been done.
P.S. I like free stuff ;)

+1 I think you got a good deal two. Hopefully nothing else is wrong with the car. 1200 is a steal IMO
