Hey guys, just did the Supra sidemount install on my 1991 Talon TSi. After checking out 90TSI-AWD's pics of his install, it got me motivated to try one or two differnt things and take pics too. The install went great! Very clean and sleek. Check out the vfaq I made and tell me what you think.

Thanks.

Nice job, I really want to get back home (I live 3 hours away at college too) and get mine reinstalled again, flipping the endtank and cutting the UICP hole larger that way it mounts completely flush this time. This install looks pretty clean and not too difficult as long as you already have an upper IC pipe made and can get your hands on a welder for the lower pipe. Time for class, good work, later.

Hey guys,
Hate to sound like a broken record, but you really shouldn't be using fernco/hardware store sewer pipe couplings for boost applications, especially on the hot end of the IC. According to Fernco specs their connectors are only good to 7.5psi at ROOM TEMP! They won't last very long at all at 15+psi and 200+ degrees F.

Well, I've had those connectors on just my UIC pipe for a couple months now and haven't noticed any signs of fading. I guess us cheap-o's will find out the hardway if your prophecy is right or not. One day I may get around to buying those high quality silicon goodies. If they're made for plumbing though, you'd have to figure that they should work safely in hot water applications, but yeah I know it's nothing compared to more than twice that heat and having 15+ psi pushing on them.

I've been using those connectors on my uip for about well almost 2 years and there is nothing wrong with them. As a matter of fact they have seen boost pressures of up to 23psi. Not one problem from them yet. OHH and I use them on my 3" intake also.

nice vfaq man. i like the install. 16G-95gsx, you dont need to take the endtank off. dont flip it. you should be able to mount it flush like i did without taking it apart. my ic sits about 6.7 inches off the ground.

Thanks for the compliments guys. As long as you have access to some type of welder, everything gets easier. I think my local Sears had a gasless mig welder for $150 the other week. If you buy that and make your own IC pipes, right there it's well worth your money.

If I only had my own welder and a mandrel bender......

Hey, 91TSiGuy. Do you plan on posting your VFAQ on the VFAQ site? It looks good, lots of useful info in there. Good job with it.
Actually, now that you mention it, I think I will. I noticed I made a few spelling boo boo's so I'll go fix them now, maybe add one or 2 things, and let Tom know about the vfaq I made.

Alright I got the intercooler yesterday. Man that thing is huge compared to the mini stock version. I won't lie and tell ya'll that this install was easy. And not that it was hard, but if you don't have the cprrect tools to cut shit. Then you may have a hard time. All in all it took a little less then 2 hours to install. From rotating the end tank to finished job.

I had to cut away some of the backside of the tow hook, to give me some more wheel clearence. of course the hole to connect uip. I cleaned the hell out of the intercooler before install cause it looked like the dude that I bought it form must've blown a head gasket.

Guys that already have the intercooler and have mounting issues. I went to ace hardware and picked up some of 14gauge steel strapping. The shit that has holes already in it. And used some of the mounting brackets already on the intercooler to ***securely*** moount this thing. It does not move and it won't!

I must say that this is a very nice install. TO finish it off. I use some gutter guard to protect it from rocks and to prevent build-up of rubber at the track which'll restrict airflow.

I had to have this thing ready for the races last night. Now for the results. WIth the stock one at 17 psi I was getting knock between 10-14. With the new intercooler I worked my way up to 25psi with ZERO knock. I was elated. this thing really rocks and for a grand total of less than $150. definatly one of the best bang for your bucks.

Oh yea and I finally got a 1.886 60' on the BF's.

If you get a reply from Tom about your VFAQ, please let me know. He never responded to me for my VFAQ.

I didn't get a reply from him yet either, but I did check out the vfaq.com page this morning and saw that he added my vfaq to the list under "intake".

Countersniper:

Which of the mounting brackets did you use? Im going to be putting mine in soon and my biggest concern about the install is getting it mounted securely. If anyone else has some tricks to get it in there solidly, lets hear them.

Fusion:

I did read your vfaq, which was great by the way, but just using the strap doesnt seem like its enough support given how much it weighs. Because of the tight fit Im sure there is no side to side movement, but its the up and down movement that concerns me. Especially since I have a stiff suspension, I think that the repeated stress of the weight of the IC applied at that one bolt through the sheet metal will eventually cause something to give. I could be way off, and Im sure that the IC piping helps to bear some of the load, but its more of a peace of mind thing.

Hey nice VFAQ fusion. I did not see that before I installed mine. But I looked at the other one that someone else made up. Besides, mine is a 1G.

Totalon: I used the mounts that are closest to the wheel on the bottom and the top outside mount. The inside ones on the top I ground off for clearence, top tilt the intercooler forward a little bit. For more tire clearence.
SO I took a piece of metal and twisted it gradually to a 90 degree turn bolting to a stock bolt hole. The bottom strap I put into the intercooler near the bottom inside and wrapped the strap under the intercooler to a stock bolt location in front of the intercooler to make sure the intercooler doesn't move backwards into the tire. There is not a whole lot of space between the intercooler and tire when the tires are turned full left.

nano: check out, thepartstrader.com and go to the supra section and type in intercooler and see what comes up.

OOHH yea I forgot to say that I dropped my 1/8th mile time .28 with just this upgrade.

Countersniper thanks. This intercooler defenetly seems like a good deal. I feel a bit hesitant cuttin my UIC but it seems worth it.
