Has anyone done this?

Mine are rusted to sh!t and make a lot of noise in the front end...

I've read the inner pads (closest to shield) get worn out faster due to the heat exposure and confinement.

Meh, I can always chalk up the removal to weight reduction hahaha

Pretty sure I ditched mine. My pads wore all the way down to about 2mm perfectly evenly.

I haven't had mine for a while. I covered the brake line in heat reflective tape just to help them last a little longer, but other than that they are rather pointless.

I personally would remove them, because they have minimal effects from what i have noticed, and always seem to get in the way or scrape on the rotor making a terribal noise. If you want to remove them, you'd either have to remove the bearing/hub assembly or just cut it off.

I always wondered about the 4-5mm spacing you you lose when you remove the brake dust shield and if it would cause a problem. Mine were rusty, so I cut them to leave a little bit (the un-rusted part that the bolts go through) for the spacing. But the next time they are off I plan on leaving them totally off.

4-5mm? Did you make yours out of bar stock? lol. They are maybe a 1mm thick, and past that I don't think they are sandwiched between the bearing and the knuckle. I could be wrong but I had mine apart over the weekend and I'm pretty sure that they were no sandwiched.

I also removed mine a few days ago. I am not worried about the heat at all but rather was concerned with the "dust" part of the dust shield. Less about the dust and more about rocks and shit. A small rock getting in there is the only real issue I see.
