So after not buying a lot of the holsets that I've been watching due to uncertainty and not having much luck with Ohiotruck parts and a couple vendors, I decided to pull the trigger on a "rebuildable core", which seems to mean that they pulled the turbo from a truck and thats it. Now my question is, is there any worth to the stock internally gated turbine housing from a hx35w, or is it not worth the trouble. I ask because I'd like to go BEP t3 housing and a nice t3 mani with an external gate, but I've spent a decent amount of money on my garage and house in the last month and it's going to take a little bit to feel spend happy again.

I do have other options of course. I have a crappy pacesetter header that I can weld a 38mm flange on and run the BEP dsm housing, which should be good for this season or a few months at least, and I can just replace the manifold when funding permits and be good to go.

Lastly, I have a 1g mani, which isn't worth a damn thing really, and I can drill and tap for a 2 bolt 38mm and use temporarily also.

Notable mods are cyclone intake, 272's, 4" intake, SD, 255pump with afpr and 680s, which will be upgraded at a later date also to 880s. I don't have an exhaust currently due to AWD swapping, and I plan to do it custom with the help of a good welder from work. I don't really plan to race this car, it's more of a street car, and I will be really happy just putting down 400hp or so.

So, in summary, Is the stock housing worth working with, or should I just get a dsm bolt on with a 38mm W/G and be done?

The question you have to ask yourself is this: Are you EVER going to want to go more power than 400? If so, get a decently sized T3 housing for it. I personally love my .82 on my GT35. If you need a manifold cheap for now, pm me if you want to go the T3 route.
