My vote is to stay with this hunk of shit so he doesn't ruin another real DSM. Darwinism at its absolute finest.

^I'm with this guy, a gutted 1g shell isn't that expensive, just get one and transfer your shit over. You would end up with a car thats MUCH nicer in about every respect.
+1. I've been messing around with S13's lately so this doesn't look so bad haha. In the drifting would most cars look this bad or worse. DSM is a different, cleaner story though.

I have thought about getting a shell and swapping everything out. But i WOULD be ruining a good dsm in the process. If i went to a different shell i would definitely gut Everything out like i have with this one. Not to mention i would chop off the front like mine is now and make a steel tube for that as well. My whole goal is to make a 4g37 as powerful as possible while being in a dsm thats as light weight as possible. Obviously im more than willing to take weight reduction to the extreme, which in itself ruins a pristine dsm for the average person.

Anyway, got the enigne out as well as the engine harness and front chassis harness.

Heres what happened to my strut tower. I think most of this was caused by my busted axle and the virations it made.
Image

Im going to use some of the 1/8" plate i have and patch this up.

Image

What it looks like from the other side. After i patch it with the plate on the back i'll weld this side back up.

Image

Going to add a tube from the front most part of the tower to the end of the rail.

Image

Also going to add a tube from the top of the rail by my hand to where the circle hole is on the firewall. 1/8" plates on both ends.

Image

The top most horizontal tube im giong to remove and redo a different way. had a hell of a time getting the engine out with the turbo still on. It kept hitting that tube.

That strut tower cracked because it has no support! this thing is dangerous the way that you have it chopped.

I remember this thread, I thought mischif said that shell was his 1 dsm or something like that. I think its a cool project and after seeing it before I'm glad it runs.
I would hope that your using THE BEST type of metals for those front rails lol. That is something I wouldn't go cheap on. I say keep going and keep some of us posted

It has nothing to do with the quality of the material he's going to use or the sentimental value of the car. The weight of the whole front end of the car pulls on that strut tower at the seam between the tower and the frame, since the seam has been considerably reduced in length and the weight is still the same that area is always going to crack also due to the lower rigidity of the whole area. Not to mention that the replacement of the front structure is so thin it seems to flex under its own weight.

An intelligent human being would listen to the advice that he has been given. You, Sean, Bishi, etc. But he doesn't. Your advice, comments, and concerns fall upon deaf ears, my friend. Best to let him succeed or fail on his own. He only posts this thread for his own pleasure, really.

All trolling aside, you really do need to look at the geometry of the front end and take a look at how professional shops convert to a tubular front end. These people here are trying to save your life, not troll you. Hell even I'm commenting about the lack of safety of it. You should listen when my trolling ass comments something serious. Take a step back, listen to the guys that know and have done it before. It really could save your life.

Back to the trolling: Pretty sure my stock daily driver Honda could wax this 1.8L Turbo's ass. ;)

Me either, man. Maybe he'll take notice that my comments went from trolling to "seriously man, for your safety take another look and do more research". If not, then there is literally nothing else you can do. You can't save people unless they want to listen or be saved in the first place. Tubular front ends are a great idea...if you know what you are doing.

Tubular front ends are great for a drag strip where you are bringing the car on a trailer and taking it home on a trailer and there is almost zero chance of a front end coming into contact with anything, street cars have no business with a tubular front end, heck I hate even driving my 2g with the front bumper support missing, seriously.

:tree: I hear you. We'll pray nothing happens, and hope he listens to reason. When your car is heavy you don't take weight off...you just make more power. ;)

It could wax it's ass since thats the only end of the car a honda would ever see

As far as MY safety goes, i could really care less. I couldn't think of a better way to bite the dust than in my car. But i promise you guys no one will be posting a R.I.P. in here on my behalf.

No progress so far. Just been staring at the thing trying to figure out what i want to do.

I could come up with pages, and pages of daily driven hondas that would easily curbstomp this car, but... not my car so I don't really care.

Does anybody else has a problem with this kind of attitude?

It's not YOUR freaking safety that matters, but unless you only drive on isolated country roads and when nobody else is around, it's everybody else's safety, including and especially that of the rescuers that would have to take you out of a ditch. Not to mention that there are things worst than death, such as turn into a vegetable, trust me, not cool at all...I mentioned it just in case you never gave it a thought.

That thing is pulling itself apart every time you either push the gas or hit the brakes.

Yes which is why I asked his age. This sounds like the attitude of a 6th grader.

I know that he's young. If he's older than freshman in college I'd be surprised. Gotta be 19 or so. That's his mental age at least.
