Is driveline noise increase normal with prothane black? Because just installed trans mount only (all others are stock) and noise increase surprised me. A little worried too thinking maybe I jacked transmission up too much causing damage. Drove it awhile at speed on highway + around town and seemed to go alright. Anyhow vibration increase is minimal and it's an overall improvement for shifting etc. So is increased driveline noise normal?

Been driving car a few days now and everything is normal so apparently a little more drive line noise is normal with prothane trans mount. Can't wait to get front prothane in this weekend.

One question, how important is it to torque the long main bolt on install? Because I just used a wrench on it and tightened it real good and probably even tapped on it with a hammer. Any concerns about over tightening these?

Just removed prothane trans mount and put stock mitsu back in because didn't like the added driveline noise plus stock mount was good anyway. When I install prothane in front mount in I'm guessing added driveline noise won't be an issue like the trans mount, right?

Also tried removing driver side mount to inspect it but couldn't get the main bolt out. I think the problem is there's no room to tap on it so it slides the through mount. Anyone else have that problem?

You need to put a jack under your car and get a short 2x4. Right next to the oil pan on the drivers side there's an edge of the block you can get the 2x4 on (not the oil pan!!) and just raise the engine a little bit. That will release the weight on the long bolt on the mount and it will slide out with your fingers ;)

Yeah I jacked it up and then adjusted jack a second time but no luck. I'll try again though and was trying to remove it just to see what it looks like. It can't be too bad though because I put a pry bar in different spots to see how much wiggle it has and seems decent. Plus the tranny mount was in like new condition.

Btw I have a prothane front mount being shipped and plan on installing soon. Is the fact that the mount it's going to get pounded into is not oem but cheap aftermarket going to make a difference for using with prothanes? I'm thinking it shouldn't but thought I'd ask just in case.

Hard to explain but you know when you go in reverse you get a whining noise, well, after prothane install was getting same noise quite a bit in 1st, noticeable in 2nd, and in 5th gear on highway a constant noise too. Put stock mount back in and back to normal.

I bought these mounts used and assuming they're prothanes so perhaps they're not and that's the whole problem? Are there other companies making prothane style mounts that just aren't as good? Vibration was only minimally increased though.

Installed prothane black front mount tonight (all others are stock) and getting more vibration than with the tranny mount. Plus ride is more harsh with front end banging over bumps etc. Don't like it at all and will be going back to stock. I know I already asked but over tightening the main bolt that goes through mount couldn't be causing a problem, right?

On this front mount tried getting rear bolt out from up top using swivel socket adapter and what a PITA! For install had to drop DP and get that bolt with a wrench and still a pita. Hack sawed the mount's metal ring in 2 places and still had to pound that the thing for awhile before it finally lost tension + dropped out.

Btw will be selling a complete set of prothane mounts for 1g FWD M/T. Driver side is red and other 3 are blacks and all are pressed into place and ready to go.

I didn't notice any of these problems *shrug*. I have 3 out of the 4 changed, the drivers side I think is the only one that's still got the OEM installed. That said, I still have my balance shafts and my trans only has maybe 8,000ish miles on it since it was rebuilt by Jacks years ago.

All of the above, absolutely normal. I installed just the front on my DD and it turned the cabin into a harmonics chamber. Hated it. Because the mounts are now stiffer, they're going to transmit more than vibration into the frame - namely harmonics. You'd never hear them until you put in the stiffer mounts. (Lots of money goes into finding the balance between acceptable NVH and acceptable driveline 'play' from the factory.

Some people are lucky and never notice the harmonics, others aren't. It just depends on your particular car, the motor, your sensitivity, etc.
