if you could get a 16g turbo kit and the greddy 18g kit, what would you go with and why? also, does anyone know where i can get specs on the greddy turbo kit for the eclipse?

I have a Super 16g and HRC says it flows 575cfm. But if you want bang for the buck, you might want a t3/t4 or 20g setup. Especially if your awd. I'm fwd so I don't want too quick of a spool-up in first. Hopefuly Quaife will solve that problem. Any way, t3/t4 or 20g. Just my 2c.

get the 16g. 18g is a hybrid. its not actually in numerical order like 14b,16g,18g,20g. 18g is just the name they gave it. yes it does have good flow rate, but all of the people in our neck of the woods steer clear of them. i've seen a 16g on a well tuned car run 11.9 at 6k elevation.

stick to whats proven--unless your a rich guy that car afford it.

First off, if I was getting the turbo for free, I would take the GReddy 18G. It flows more, end of story.

However, if I had to pay for it, I would get a TRE Big 16G with the rotated compressor housing. A lot cheaper, direct bolt-on.

The 18G is a Mitsubishi turbo. GReddy uses their own exhaust housing though. It is the same bolt pattern, has a 6cm style inlet (assumably for faster spool) but has the volume of about an 8.5cm2 housing.

Of course, I would rather have a Forced Performance Big 28 anyways. Direct bolt-on, fast spool and good top end for a street car.

And the best "bang for the buck" is NOT a T3/T4 like GSTwkd said. The supporting mods required to get good performance out of that turbo in a safe manner make it a LOT more expensive than a 16G/18G/T28 set up.

You might be right on the supporting mods part depending on how far you were going to go with your car anyway, but I mostly ment in the pricing of turbos. When I was looking, I could get a new t3/t4 for $550 which is about the same for a 16g or big16g(depending on where you go), and are rated at alot higher hp, like 500hp. But my car is for street so I'll stick with my S16g. Peace

So for $550 you end up with a turbo that won't bolt onto your car. How is that the best bang for the buck?

Like I said, "depending on how far you were going to go with your car anyway". Yes, you have to get a new mani for the t3/t4 to bolt up to, but you need one for the Greddy 18g too. I don't know about you, but Greddy 18g kits I've seen are pricey. Just add a mani to the list of stuff you were going to get anyway. It was just my 2c, thats all. Anyway, gsx-lex, as you can see there are many options and opinions. Hope it helps--peace

The GReddy 18G does NOT need a manifold. It bolts right to the stocker.

I appreciate the fact that you are trying to help, but you are really missing a lot of important information here.

My bad, I saw kits with mani's and thought that they had to come with new ones. sorry.....Didn't think I was that misleading:rolleyes:

ProjectGSX, what do you mean "would rather have a Big28 for Forced Performance.) YOU DO!!! :D I was debating on wether to get a Big 16G or a Big28...After reading your review, I'll be going with that turbo also. I'm sorry if you posted it before, but do you have the link to that site???

off topic

2 members of CoDSM logged thier cars about 2 weeks ago. the only difference in both the 2Gs were the turbos(ones got a B16G and the other has a B28/28) and DPs. one car had a 2 1/2" DP wile the other had a 3". the logs were almost identical. the B16G flow SLIGHTLY more air(not sure if the DP size has anything to do with it), but the B28/28 spooled alot faster.

just thought some might be interested

When I said, I would rather have.., I was refering to this hypothetical situation. :)

I don't have the link handy. Go look in the Parts Talk forum, Tex posted the link in his thread about the Big 28.
